This was a big surprise driving by. It is part of the National Park System and I got to get another stamp in my book. There is lots of fishing throughout and camping. We drove down to Pine Creek and had lunch, there are picknick tables and bathrooms. There is a small waterfall and a trail that leads to the river. Very pretty.

Trip started at the crack of dawn. The guide Collin was on the dock and ready! It was just me and my son and right off the bat Collin had us on the fish!!! My son has never before fished for salmon and his first few fish were Kokanee which already made the trip worth it. Caught many more kokanee, brown trout and rainbows and end the day with Mackinaw (lake trout). The guide Collin was amazing has an immense amount of knowledge about the fish and habitat and kept the poles in the water the entire trip. See ya next year!!!

We’ve been there twice …first in a guided tour from marble with a very nice experienced driver …..the weather was perfect and the views were spectacular
It was so nice that while staying in crested butte we decided to rent a jeep and come back from the other direction through the treacherous “devils punch bowl” luckily we didn’t encounter any cars going in the opposite direction so it wasn’t too bad …..extreme beauty both times ….we’ve also been to the other “most photographed” scene “the Maroon Bells” equally beautiful but in a different way and MUCH easier to get to.
Colorado is full of extreme beauty but I think the Jeep trails out of Ouray may be the best of all of them. ….NUMEROUS old mining roads mostly quite drivable in a rental Jeep …..a “MUST DO”

This is great and big. A lot of lovely old buildings have been moved to the grounds and fixed up. Each one has interesting displays. One newer metal building has about 100 cars. It is amazing what a volunteer group has done. They have a little bit of everything you can think of and a lot of somethings - for example the huge variety of telephones and typewriters. Plan on spending several hours here or spread over two days if you go into overload.

Lots of beautiful scenery. Many places for dispersed camping. Starting to get trampled by out of state travelers who either don't know or don't care about camping ethics.

The most beautiful drive I think I’ve ever taken. You MUST drive from crested butte to emerald lake. You go through the town of Gothic which is cool and quirky!

Great hike for novice hikers. Does climb a little but the views are amazing. Once at end you are able to see snow capped peaks to the south. Still need to figure out which they were.

We rented a side by side to ride up to Tin Cup. You do not need to rent one if you are just going there, but if you want to go up to Mirror Lake or Pitkin I think you will need a something like that or a Jeep because the roads are very rocky and could dent up a car. The town is very small, but they do have a restaurant (we did not eat there) and a gift shop. And a beautiful old church and several houses that looked like they are seasonal. But it is very cute town and worth the drive. And dont forget to see the cemetery, It has a beautiful peacfull view.

We went at the end of May the weather was perfect. They pass out permits at 3:30 and people were lining by 2pm. They only allow 15 people per day on this route. The route is difficult, you slide on scree a lot. We had lunch at the bottom and then headed back up. Start early in the morning to beat the heat.

Nice area to picnic, has restrooms available, playground equipment for various ages, spacious green grassy area to just put down a blanket and chill out.

Begin at Pioneer Lookout Point and look down to the Gunnison river and across the river to the Curecanti needle. Then realize at the end of the 2 mile hike, you will be down there next to the river, looking up at the needle. Don't let that dissuade you because it's a beautiful hike that's worth the trek down and then back up. The first .75 mile is a gentle descent over the mesa and down toward Curecanti creek. It becomes a steeper descent and you cross a bridge over the creek. This last mile is beautiful, cooler and follows the creek to the bottom. There are 3 steep descents followed by flatter, level trail. Don't miss refrigerator rocks, especially if it's a hot day. Stand next to the rocks and feel the cold air rushing from under the rocks. Take lots of water if you're hiking in the heat of the summer. This trail is dog friendly and there are pit toilets at the top and the bottom of the trail. There are also 2 campsites at the bottom. Took us about 3 hours round trip but would have been faster except the 9 year old slowed us down a bit.
