Wow. Just wow. If you have a chance, do not miss Arches. It would be worth seeing if there were no arches! The scenery is that fantastic.

A few tips from an older, widely-traveled visitor.
    1. PAY ATTNETION to the timed entry requirements that go into effect on April 1 (through October 31). They may seem like a pain, but parking is very limited throughout the park and this restriction is one that the visitors requested be put in place.
    2. Do stop and learn from the Visitors' Center. Knowing about the widely varying types of stone, how it was formed and when, colors, textures, etc. will greatly enhance your understanding and appreciation of what you will be seeing. It's not just a random bunch of pretty rocks. The rangers at the Center can give great advice as to where to go and what to see based upon your interests and limitations.
    3. The terrain and geology varies widely as you move further along the almost 20 mile long road into the park. Once you've seen the massive red cliffs at the beginning, you will be amazed at the 'frozen' sand dunes in the flatter interior and finally the 'fins' and steep passages near the north end. Such a variety in a small distance.
    4. Based on our many hours long visit, I would say the following are absolute must-sees: (in order south to north) Park Avenue viewpoint; Courthouse Towers viewpoint/Three Gossips; Balanced Rock; the North and South Windows (our absolute favorites) and Turret Arch (on a spur road to the east); hiking some distance (your choice) into Devil's Garden at the north end of the Park.
    5. The most famous arch - Delicate - is a half mile pretty easy hike in. There is a longer, more difficult trail. Ti can be seen at a distance from very short trails at the end of the spur read.
    6. Great hiking trails for all abilities and also great biking.
    7. Any morons who would do the following probably will not change their bad habits but I can't help trying. Signs EVERYWHERE say stay off of the arches, stay off of the extremely fragile crusty desert soils found outside of the marked paths, and do NOT take pets - leashed or otherwise - on any trail. Naturally we saw people violating all three of these very reasonable and necessary requests.

Finally, drive slowly, walk slowly, take lots of water (water was not availlable in the park when we visited), park only at marked areas and keep a lookout at all times for arches. There are over 2,000 within the park boundary!!!!

Dead Horse Point State Park is a state park that is located adjacent to Canyonlands National Park. It has a separate entrance and has separate fees (National Park passes not accepted here), but it's 100% worth it to visit here even if you've already been to Canyonlands. The views here are just as good if not better than Canyonlands and the vistas in this part of Utah are remarkable. There are lots of hiking trails here as well and we wish we left more time to explore here as we would have liked to have done more hiking here. The park is nicely set up overall and it's a wonderful place to visit when exploring this park of Utah!

Canyonlands has three distinct areas: Island in the Sky, the Maze, and Needles. Today we toured and hiked Island in the Sky.
Drive north on 191 to the Canyonlands turnoff on the west side of 191. At this intersection there is a fun stop for children; I don't know exactly what is entailed but I can say there are several wonderful dinosaur sculptures on the grounds.
Drive about 20 miles with scenic vistas on either side of the road. Watch for cows...this is open range which means the cows are on a walkabout.
There's a short hike at the Visitor Center, pay your fee and get a brochure. A short ways in is the Maze hike and overlook. Short, easy for anyone including wheelchair accessible.
All of the hikes are rated online and in the handout given at the entrance. We choose Grandview; one of our party has bad knees so we need easy trails. A two mile trail it was easily accomplished and the views were fantastic.
Drove the entirety of the road system available to our Toyota Highlander. We had started our trip at 7:15 am and we returned to Moab by 2 for any early dinner before heading out to the La Sal scenic byway.

The Corona Arch Trail is a wonderful hike near Moab.  It is on BLM Land and is free to access.  It's just over two miles of gorgeous hike to the arch with some small sections up an incline with chains and a ladder.  The start of the trail from the parking lot has a small but steep climb to the top of a mesa where the Potash Railroad Spur goes through a beautiful mountain cutout.  The rest of the trail is a gradual ascent.  Along with Corona Arch we also get to visit Bow Tie Arch.  There is an additional out-and-back trail (about a mile long) to Pinto Arch which is not as spectacular.  On the way back to the parking lot, one can enjoy expansive views of the Colorado River and the lush green of the river banks.

A hike to see Corona Arch is well worth the effort.

Celebrated my birthday with a milestone! I can't believe we didn't do this sooner.
After 7 trips to Utah; two visits to Bryce NP and five to Zion NP, we finally COMPLETED Utah's Mighty 5! 🙏

Arches, Canyonlands and Capitol Reef National Parks in 4 days was definitely not enough considering the 7 hrs one-way drive from home, BUT we made it work! 👍 Hiking only the ones we can and stopped at overlooks we wanted to see made our trip a success.
We'll come back another time to explore more.. or maybe move forward to other NPs! 😂

Very cool drive and worth the time if you have it! Went with my dad and 6yo son. Went straight to the trail head and found the petroglyphs and dinosaur prints. A few helpful signs that explain what you're seeing. Also petroglyphs along the road on a huge cliff which are marked as well. We loved it and would recommend for sure!

I am so thankful that a local Mmoabite recommended that we drive Castle Valley road. The sites were unbelievable (including the fun of seeing free range cows!) Just beware that there is a reason the speed limit is only 15 miles an hour on sections of this road. There are no guardrails! Be careful and enjoy!

Just outside of Moab, we did this trail at first light (before sunrise) to beat the crowds (that we heard are here). Did this on a Saturday so another reason to get there early. There’s a pit toilet there. We had to walk through about 8-10 streams EACH WAY but all had rocks to help – and I had my hiking poles so didn’t get wet. It was a lovely hike. You hear the stream most of the hike. The Morning Glory Natural Bridge (arch) is at the end of the hike. It’s beautiful there. We had about 20-30 minutes to ourselves there. Definitely one of our top hikes in Moab.

Coming from a large city with like 5 visible stars, we were absolutely blown away to see the Milky Way in all its splendor and a sky full of stars. Alex is the perfect guide through this dark sky spectacle to lead, engage, instruct, and inspire. I will go so far as to say that you should plan your visit to the Moab area around when the moon is NOT full or prominent in the night sky. But no matter how dark the night is when you're here, do not miss this outing!

We had visited the Arches NP on Sunday & were leaving town Monday morning when we noticed a walk bridge over the Colorado. We took a hike then decided to drive down the road by the river. It was a fantastic viewing experience.
