Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Die Eintrittskosten von wenigen Dollars lohnen sich sehr. Mit zwei Broschüren wird die Architektur und die Ausstellung bestens beschrieben. Ein Highlight!
The entrance fee of a few dollars is well worth it. With two brochures, the architecture and the exhibition are described in the best possible way. A highlight!

Nice church located in downtown San Francisco it’s much bigger that you would expect and it’s quite an imposing structure.

Nice cute church close to the edge of China Town. I took a short walk to Union Square from here at about 8am and it was a nice experience. The waking of the city...

The High Mass had their choral group with music. The interior is similar to what you would see in Europe and surely is a wonderful venue for Sunday Mass.

This neighborhood church has long had programs for the poorest of the poor who live in the area. I have always admired this church for what they do, but one can also admire the church because the building brings beauty to the block. It's noble. Peak inside.

St. Dominic's is worth a visit if you enjoy Gothic revival architecture, but it's choir is just as beautiful. The magnificent and traditional singing creates an inspiring experience at the 11:30 AM Sunday mass.

A facade that is elegant, with marvellous architectural features, caught our attention as we walked along Van Ness on our first morning in the city.

Lovely embellishments are to be seen. Exquisite stone carvings surround the entrances. Fine bas-reliefs and statues further adorn the profiles.

It has served as a place of worship for many decades and has many art treasures within, including stained glass windows by the noted Irish artist Harry Clarke. It withstood the 1906 and 1989 earthquakes.

We later learnt that the church was closed by the Archdiocese in 1994, much to the dismay of the local congregation. Justifications for the closure included reducing attendances and expensive seismic retrofitting. The community offered to raise funds for the latter but to no avail.

It has been deemed a city landmark thus saving it from possible demolition.

In 2005 the building was purchased by the Academy of Art University.

Replacing a couple of prior churches, including one demolished in the 1906 quake, it was consecrated in 1910. We saw the dazzling white facade on a perfect afternoon of deep blue skies.

Lovely as the outside is, it is even more impressive inside. Stained glass windows are a marvellous feature, in particular the one at the high altar.

The vista along the nave is breathtaking, bordered by attractive columns and arches.

Visible from afar, this stunning church is beautiful both inside and out.

With striking facade features such as the exquisite frieze that embellishes the entrance area, the asymmetrical towers and not to mention the attractive colour, it is delightful to gaze upon.

Walking in is to see the vast nave culminating in the impressive dome over the altar segment. Corinthian style columns superseded by grand arches are wonderful.

Mosaic artwork is a gorgeous feature. Stations of the Cross are in this form. Further holy mosaic images are many saintly figures, including Patrick with his green vestments and shamrock.

Stained glass examples are numerous and stunning. Imposing Rose Windows are to be admired.

We stopped by to see St. Mark's Lutheran Church. It is very close to St. Mary's Cathedral (a couple minutes walk on the eastern side). St. Mark's is a historical landmark and was built in 1895. It survived the great earthquake of 1906. The style of the church is Romanesque Revival. The stained glass windows are nice. The church has German roots and was designed by Herny Geilfuss. It is the oldest Lutheran Church in the West.

The church has musical events; information about these events can be found on the web site. The church is an active congregation today.

It's a beautiful cathedral which looks like it has a very modern architecture. It's a quiet, peaceful place that one can visit in the middle of the city.

A profusion of stained glass is inspiring, portraying many holy images and imparting a gorgeous celestial glow.

A wonderful profile is to be admired on approach, including an attractive tower with a cross at its apex. The morning we visited had the deepest of azure skies and the structure looked particularly impressive with such a backdrop.

Standing at the entrance the vista along the nave is delightful. Unusually for such a church the altar is noteworthy for its restful simplicity.

Much statuary is to be seen throughout. Saintly depictions including of Christ bestowing a blessing are grand.

We went to the Greek Orthodox Church in San Francisco during the Christmas Holiday month. The church was begun in 1857.

With a congregation originating in 1854 it is one of the longest-standing in the city. It was originally based in Bush St and then Union Sq, before the current church was completed in 1901.

Miraculously it survived intact the 1906 disaster and actually hosted services for other denominations whose places of worship were destroyed.

It has an imposing architectural style incorporating Revival and Edwardian features.
