What travellers are saying
- Dr_XaosPalatine, IL1,182 contributionsWife and I were exploring different North/East shore beaches during our week in Kauai. We decided to check out the Anahola beach, which wasn’t very far from our lodging in Princeville. Most of our drive was along the main highway, but the road to the beach itself was more of a dirt road. We were a little concerned at first that we took a wrong turn, but we found a small parking area next to the beachfront.
The beach was a beautiful expanse of fine, white sand with plenty of nearby palm trees offering some shade. There were only a few other people at this beach at the time of our visit, although a few more showed up closer to noon. We were able to enjoy a couple hours of quiet time sunning on the beach before enjoying cooling off in the clear ocean water. Waves were bigger and more prevalent than during some of our other beach visits, but we were still able to safely enjoy a swim.Written 8 April 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. There was room between vendors , which I liked. There was an array of goods, from homemade food to high quality art items. Everyone we talked with was very nice. There was one booth were massage was being given. It was just an eclectic offering .
Oh, there was also some live music. The food we ate was excellent!
The setting is spectacular.Written 18 October 2019This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. The trails are not very demanding.
The beach lies about 15 miles north of the Lihue airport. Driving north from the airport on Kuhio Highway (Route 56), at about the 15-mile mark, go past Aliomanu Road on the right and turn right onto Papaa Road near the top of a hill. Follow this until you see Kalalea View Drive on your right. Take this and be on the lookout on your left for a sign saying Beach Access. Follow this road toward the ocean as far as you can until you come to a small dirt parking lot on the right. At the far right of the parking lot is a trail that leads down to the beach.
Note that the directions provided in a previous review (dated August 24, 2016) will take you to South Aliomanu Beach which is separated from North Aliomanu Beach by rocks and other natural features, and is open to view from its parking area.
Back to North Aliomanu, at the foot of the trails is a small sandy area with shade available from some trees. No signs of civilization are visible from this area. However, if you walk to the right around and through a rock and boulder field, the beach opens to a long sandy stretch, and you can see homes on the hills above.
On the day when my husband and I visited in February, there was only one other couple on the small beach at the trail’s end. They were at the far left of the beach, so we set up at the far right before the boulder field, presuming that they, like us, were desirous of solitude. We took advantage of the isolation and serenity of the location to sunbathe nude. Late in the day, we chatted briefly with the other couple who were millennials like us. Au naturel sunbathing was not their cup of tea, but they didn’t seem to mind our nakedness. After they left, we enjoyed ourselves even more.
A major drawback to this beach is that the footing under the water is not sandy; it consists of lava and rocks – not really inviting for swimming. We enjoy being nude at the beach – it’s the most natural thing to do, especially in a gorgeous tropical locale – but the walking and swimming constraints of North Aliomanu Beach were such that we did not make a return visit.Written 18 April 2018This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. I have been to many kirtans in my life, all over the world including Bhaktifest, and the kirtan meditations with Radha and Gopal Harvey have been among my favorites so far. It is not only their beautiful voices and and superb musicianship that makes their kirtans very uniquely wonderful, but also their genuinely kind and loving nature. I had the chance to speak with them about their practice and ask questions during a one-day retreat they held, and I must say, they truly have a deep and clear understanding of the true essence of bhakti. And it shows in the way that they relate with people and speak about yoga practice. I will definitely be incorporating their events into my itinerary for future trips to Kauai!Written 28 January 2016This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Julie CongiSan Francisco, CA118 contributionsHesitant at first because we had never done Yoga in our group. The yoga was really secondary to us....it was the goats that were the stars and just made your heart melt. Yoga with Goats is right up there with Pickle ball these days and everyone should try it! You will have so much fun I promise you. The land that this farm sits on is beautiful, the owner gives you insight information on the Kalelea mountain range and her property. The Yoga instructor was as sweet as can be! My husband even got to bottle feed a kid goat since it was his 70th birthday and we all had matching tee shirts on that day that said: The G.O.A.T. turns 70! Aloha! This farm is located in the town of Anatolia, Kauai.Written 8 March 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Jate TLihue, HI2 contributionsSo happy I found this guy! First of all, for a completely private tour, this was VERY reasonable. Years ago, I remember one private tour for two was $800.00. Second, I actually spoke to the Hawaiian Dundee himself to set up our adventure. He listened to what I was interested in, asked about our fitness level, if we had any recent injuries and took it from there. On the ride to our destination, we took an oath of silence ;) not to reveal the secret spot he was taking us to. It added a mysterious component that got us even more excited! Long story short, we were the only people at our secret waterfall and it’s a memory we’ll never forget. Your secret is safe with us Dundee! We hope everyone else keeps their oath, because we’re coming back next time!Written 12 July 2021This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - HansenVABlacksburg, VA24 contributionsGreat experience with Kauai Rooftop Campers! Thorough checkout procedure made it a breeze to use the provided camping equipment. BE SURE TO review the videos for the camper top and throw tent for deployment and packing instructions. Don't hesitate to ask them questions, advice, places to stay or visit. Very friendly and helpful!Written 13 March 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
