Parked at trail head and hiked down. Approximately 2 miles one way. Fairly steep all the way down.

Do not hike unless you are fit. Fairly rigorous. Take plenty of water, minimum three to four bottles per.

Absolutely the best snorkeling on the big island. Worth the hike.

No facilities at top or bottom

This place is amazing. If you're at all interested in the recent history of Hawaii ("recent" = 1920s onward) then do try to visit. The people there show you how small coffee farmers lived - the staff were knowledgeable, enthusiastic, intelligent, and eager to share with guests. We had a fantastic time and it's well-worth a visit.

Our first time here and now we understand the painted refers to the amazing murals inside. Still an active Catholic Mass schedule.
    Peace.

This garden is very beautiful. They are well maintained and have a wide variety of plants. They had religious shrines from around the world. My favorite is the jade vine.

Stop debating the hike and take a snorkel tour in by boat. The locals absolutely detest all us tourists hiking down there and killing the coral. There's not many spots to get in without damaging it. If you can't tread water in the deep to clean out your mask, you shouldn't snorkel. That said, it was amazing. Hoping us tourists don't continue to screw it up. It's a spinner dolphin sanctuary and pretty close to heaven. Let's protect it.

Amazing place to check out! Bill has phenomenal coffee and he may (if you’re lucky) have some chocolate he has also made from his cacao trees - but it’s in limited supply! Best chocolate I had on the island! Bill is a fantastic host! We had a lovely introduction to our place and if you love coffee he will provide you with all the info! He also has amazing pottery (porcelain vases with crystalline glazes), banana bread and some in season fruit. Bill has made his cafe on the side of the mountain with phenomenal views. We sat out on the deck, enjoyed the swinging chairs and couches and watched as the clouds (and a bit of rain) passed. It was heavenly!

To get into the place, when headed South on the main highway make sure you turn right onto Anoi Place. This road is a big hill, but Sacred Grounds is the 2nd driveway on the left. You can ease your way down and to the left to access his place. Totally doable.

Amazing place to snorkel. No lifeguard on duty, so make sure you know how to swim confidently, and how to use your snorkeling gear before you step into the water.

According to signs, the garden is now operated by the community and is open on specified days of the week. We attended on a Friday and enjoyed our time. A self-guided tour is available, but we are not technologically proficient, so we just wandered around and read the signs. Two men, who were laboring in the garden, approached us and offered assistance. They were very pleasant -- good ambassadors. The garden commendably focuses on historical uses of plants by local peoples and does not focus on "entertainment" as much as on education. When we visited, admission was free, but donations are encouraged -- which are very worth making.

The people were so knowledgeable, kind and accommodating i enjoyed our visit.

If you have a curious mind about coffee growing and/or a refined coffee palette you will be more than happy with the variety of offerings you find here. I was particularly interested in the tea made from the outside of the coffee cherries and the process of using “honeyed” beans for roasting and developing flavor pallets. Sprouting plants from beans with their parchment intact was also a learning moment for me.

My partner does absolutely enjoy his morning cup of coffee but does not consider himself a coffee connoisseur. He believes that the information and product provided is more consistent with a connoisseur’s level of interest.

The previous reviews are very informative and provide comprehensive information about this hike. Additionally, I would advise organizing the day so that you climb up at the end of the day when it's not as hot, but still reach the parking lot before dark. The way uphill for a young, well-fitted person will take approximately an hour. For others, it may take up to two hours.

Enjoyed learning about Honey and wish we had more time to visit with Beekeeper. History of bee keeping on the island was fascinating and the different types sold were available for tasting.
