Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

What travellers are saying
- Bowmanator22Charlotte, NC5,018 contributionsThe winery and lavender farm is located in a beautiful setting, with farmland stretching for miles in the heart of the Shenandoah Valley. The lavender gift shop was interesting. I’ve never seen so much lavender in one place! And the service and prices were reasonable. Unlike many wineries, this is a kid friendly environment. Definitely worth a visit.Written 31 October 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- MStangleSan Diego, CA313 contributionsWe visited this lovely arboretum after spending the night at a hotel just a mile away. It is free and open to the public.Written 13 November 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- Elaine HolmesRichlands, VA1 contributionThe Virginia Quilt Museum is amazing. The house that features all this beautiful quilts is worth viewing on its own. I was overwhelmed by the quality of the quilts. I was there to pick up quilts made by Pat Sloan that I won in a bidding contest. All monies went to preserve and support this great Museum. The people that work there were very helpful in assisting me. Please visit. You won't be disappointed.Written 26 November 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- LesleyScarboroughScarborough, United Kingdom1,211 contributionsHarrisonburg children are so lucky to have this wonderful place to visit. Our 5 year old granddaughter loves it as there's so much to learn, explore and have fun with. - Bowmanator22Charlotte, NC5,018 contributionsReally good visitor center. Lots of information available, a friendly staff, and a really nice gift shop to buy Harrisonburg items. Also, an additional little museum inside. Definitely worth a quick stop.Written 31 October 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - teetayParksley, VA14 contributionsI graduated in 1969 when it was just Madison College under President G Tyler Miller--the old geezer! I hated to see my 4 years end. The school is totally outstanding. The campus is gorgeous and the current students are friendly to us seniors. We try to visit once a year. GO DUKES!!!Written 2 September 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- Seri BTucson, AZ57 contributionsAn indoor market with lots of interesting non-commercial shops.
It clearly reflects the Mennonite population of the area. I enjoyed walking around it. I did buy some locally made jams. It says "come enjoy a taste of the past" and that it is.
Country-style cafe, Amish-made furniture, home-style canned goods, locally handcrafted items.
It's worth a stop along your way.Written 24 October 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. We've been here before and knew that we could fill our veggie needs and want for the week. It was a slam dunk - except trying to decide which stand we would make our purchases at.
The market is sheltered and right downtown. There's plenty of parking - but can be hard to find a space if you come later in the morning - because there are plenty of customers strolling the market.
We got several handfuls of great looking Shitake and Cremini mushrooms - at a very reasonable price. That was the easy choice as it was the only stand that had mushrooms. Moving along - I picked up a quart container of pickling cucumbers. Dark green and solid. And a bag of mixed lettuce made it into our bag.
Then came the tough decision - where to get our potatoes. They seemed to be at every stand - and beautiful. We decided on 3 pounds of small red new potatoes. (had them last night - roasted. Perfect)
There were some great looking beets and onions of all varieties. But - we had gotten ours at the Lexington market on Wed.
It doesn't take long to figure out that there are young people everywhere - shoppers and vendors. Both having a fun time. If you're around Harrisonburg on a Saturday - get here early and enjoy.Written 27 June 2021This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. The tour started with a very informative video on the origins of the Brethren & Mennonite in Europe and their life in the Shenandoah Valley. Next, we viewed the interpretive panels in the heritage center. We then toured the property which included stops at a shoemaker shop, log house, farmhouse, washhouse and a one room school house. Our tour guide was full of information and enjoyed answering our questions. A bonus was the view of the Shenandoah Valley, which was outstanding. The center is educational and fun. I highly recommend stopping by for a visit when you are in the area. There is no admission charge, but the suggested donation is $10.Written 22 November 2021This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - freesmes11 contributionsMy husband is the craft beer drinker and really enjoyed our visit to Three Notched. He was able to get small samples and had lots of choices of types of beer he liked. They were not too busy so Nick and Adam talked a lot about what was available and what was coming. Parking was not far and was only $.25 for 1/2 hour.Written 11 November 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Marilyn S1 contributionLove this treasure of a theater, but the heating system needs an upgrade. Maybe some local businesses could help. I am elderly and had to stop coming ths winter because the theater was so cold.Written 11 April 2019This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - harryh409Crestview, FL354 contributionsWe were able to stop and explore this local fire dept. museum dedicated to their local fire dept. It is located in downtown Harrisonburg, Va. on the 3rd floor of the City building. You receive a pass at the customer window and proceed up to a nice display of various news clippings, displays of older items from years past and a wall of fame dedicated to previous fire dept. heroes. Also a wall with dedication to 911. A very nice time was had here and a real nice attempt to honor their fire dept.Written 17 July 2019This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Dan&Shan1 contributionBilly & Nathan did a fantastic job handling our family of 8 which included teens and young children. We had a lot of fun doing this and all left laughing with smiles on our faces! Definitely a must do if you happen to have an hour of free time.Written 19 March 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Hokie67Lexington, VA1,117 contributionsThis seems like you're walking into someone's basement home brew room. And it is in many ways. It looks like it's home brew shop that sells its 'home brew' on tap and you can buy your equipment and ingredients here.
My wife, who loves IPA's, went with the Ruin Jason double IPA. Any double or triple IPA is a true test of a Brewmeister. And this one passed with flying colors - as the added hops were there to add character not just mo' bitter. I had a Big Toby - an Imperial Red. It could have used a little more oomph, but was a delightful sipper.
BTW, you can get a 4 OZ glass, which was what we both had after a huge lunch with a drive home awaiting us. Plus - you can get your Shenandoah Beerwerks Passport stamped!
It's small with tough parking nearby, but if circle a few times you'll find something. But - this is true anywhere in downtown H'burg.Written 2 May 2021This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
