What travellers are saying
- FLTeach2Key Largo, FL68 contributionsI’d give this more stars if I could. First we visited the lavender store where we sniffed, tasted tea and tested lotions. It was so relaxing. Then we progressed to the tasting room and it’s a delight. The tasting was done in a manner that was created during covid and was unique to us. We loved it and loved the wines even more. Everyone working there was polite, enthusiastic and helpful. This was worth visiting.Written 15 November 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Azi SColumbia, MD51 contributionsBest kids museum anywhere.Totally interactive including a hands-on Makers room for kids 8 and over where kids get instruction in use of everything from sewing machines to 3-d printers. We spent an afternoon there with two of our grandkids 6 and 9.Written 15 June 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - kghudsonHouston, TX462 contributionsOutstanding selection of beautiful quilts that told a story. Located in an old house with much history, the museum was informative, expansive with over 75 quilts, the staff were knowledgeable and friendly, the gift shop was well stocked and the entrance price was very reasonable. Free parking with lots of other sights nearby. Would highly recommend if you are a quilter or want to learn about the history of quilts in VirginiaWritten 22 November 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Seri BTucson, AZ60 contributionsAn indoor market with lots of interesting non-commercial shops.
It clearly reflects the Mennonite population of the area. I enjoyed walking around it. I did buy some locally made jams. It says "come enjoy a taste of the past" and that it is.
Country-style cafe, Amish-made furniture, home-style canned goods, locally handcrafted items.
It's worth a stop along your way.Written 24 October 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. It is also close to a charming downtown, and there are plenty of good hotels and BnB's. There are over 20k students, and the marching band is really worth hearing and seeing. The Forbes center has wonderful internationally relevant music and theater acts, and October is the best time to visit and see the Shenandoah Valley too.Written 22 May 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Bowmanator22Charlotte, NC5,046 contributionsReally good visitor center. Lots of information available, a friendly staff, and a really nice gift shop to buy Harrisonburg items. Also, an additional little museum inside. Definitely worth a quick stop.Written 31 October 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Vork TravelSaint Louis, MO176 contributionsThis is an awesome brewery. They have lots of variety and some really interesting beers including the French onion soup; it was so weird but surprisingly good! The bartender was great too! I would definitely recommend! They are also part of a passport program which I suggest checking out if you plan to visit multiple breweries.Written 27 September 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Hokie67Lexington, VA1,140 contributionsThis was one of the main points of interest on our Saturday outing to Harrisonburg. We've been here before and knew that we could fill our veggie needs and want for the week. It was a slam dunk - except trying to decide which stand we would make our purchases at.
The market is sheltered and right downtown. There's plenty of parking - but can be hard to find a space if you come later in the morning - because there are plenty of customers strolling the market.
We got several handfuls of great looking Shitake and Cremini mushrooms - at a very reasonable price. That was the easy choice as it was the only stand that had mushrooms. Moving along - I picked up a quart container of pickling cucumbers. Dark green and solid. And a bag of mixed lettuce made it into our bag.
Then came the tough decision - where to get our potatoes. They seemed to be at every stand - and beautiful. We decided on 3 pounds of small red new potatoes. (had them last night - roasted. Perfect)
There were some great looking beets and onions of all varieties. But - we had gotten ours at the Lexington market on Wed.
It doesn't take long to figure out that there are young people everywhere - shoppers and vendors. Both having a fun time. If you're around Harrisonburg on a Saturday - get here early and enjoy.Written 27 June 2021This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. The tour started with a very informative video on the origins of the Brethren & Mennonite in Europe and their life in the Shenandoah Valley. Next, we viewed the interpretive panels in the heritage center. We then toured the property which included stops at a shoemaker shop, log house, farmhouse, washhouse and a one room school house. Our tour guide was full of information and enjoyed answering our questions. A bonus was the view of the Shenandoah Valley, which was outstanding. The center is educational and fun. I highly recommend stopping by for a visit when you are in the area. There is no admission charge, but the suggested donation is $10.Written 22 November 2021This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Marilyn S1 contributionLove this treasure of a theater, but the heating system needs an upgrade. Maybe some local businesses could help. I am elderly and had to stop coming ths winter because the theater was so cold.Written 11 April 2019This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC.
