What travellers are saying
- Bill CLeesburg, VA1 contributionMy wife and I spent Valentine’s Day at King Family Vineyards and we can’t recommend this place enough. We had a Reserve Tasting with James and the experience is something that we won’t soon forget. He walked us through the history of the winery, and how there was some good fortune in getting into the wine business, as well as various details of their wine productions and the countless decisions that go into the art of making each wine.
While many VA wineries have turned to self-tasting flights (which they also offer), it was refreshing to have a more personalized wine experience.
We have visited many wineries throughout the US, and King Family Vineyards with their diverse line of wines is now one of our favorites.
If you’re looking for wineries in the Charlottesville/Crozet area, then this is a must visit. Trust us, you’ll be happy you went.Written 17 February 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. While they had a stout in the can, there was nothing on draft. I went with a delicious smoked ale. The Hefeweizen was also good. My fellow traveler likes the hops and enjoyed his selections. It is worth the stop if you like American ales, IPAs, or Hefeweizen.Written 12 July 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Kristen BClifton Forge, VA213 contributionsVery lovely and charming vineyard. We visited on a Saturday in June and we were almost alone at the time we visited. There were only a few other couples there. The wine was very good, and the tasting room associate was wonderful! The inside of the tasting room is beautiful, I didn't get to see the main house during our visit though.Written 23 June 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - loudini56Finksburg, MD1,443 contributionsThis boutique winery produces some really incredible wine. We enjoyed everything we tried but especially liked the Chardonnay and their Bordeaux blend. Your also very close the the vines which really adds to the total experience.
This winery is a gotta, not a maybe but definitely a gotta go to.Written 16 October 2021This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Judith BCharlottesville, VA11 contributionsMy husband and I like this vineyard because the atmosphere is so awesome. They have a wines that you can enjoy and meet new people. The employees are so helpful and kind. We have invited many of our friends to go here. I also like the fact that they are very close to home. I have been getting wines from them and sending them to my friends in SC, Va. and Florida. Now those friends are coming in to actually visit the vineyard. - Golfista2018Virginia Beach, VA6 contributionsEverything about our 5 hours at wildrock was PERFECT! It was a hot day but the breezes made most of it absolutely bearable. When it did get too warm, we cooled our feet in the stream (or put on the rubber boots that were there to help yourself to) or went in the excellently designed and well air-conditioned barn. The outdoor playscapes were beautiful and interesting to ALL of us (2 8-year-olds, a 7-year-old and 2 moms). The indoor play area was equally charming and engaging. We kept repeating that we wish there were a school like this! The trail and hike were perfect for us (total amateurs!) although we both noted that we wouldn’t have felt comfortable if we were the only adult along. Crossing and playing in the streams and the fairy doll house in the barn were both something straight out of childhood dreams. Everyone who worked there (I think they are actually all volunteers) was friendly and most accommodating! We live about 4 hours away but will definitely return! *make sure you pack a picnic lunch to enjoy there! it is remote and you wouldn’t want to waste time leaving to eat!*Written 25 July 2019This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - MemoryMaker5Ohio1,093 contributionsWe were short on time, so we just walked part of the tunnel. It was a neat experience!
Parking is along the little road and close to the entrance of the walk. We didn't realize there is quite a walk before you even reach the tunnel, so that is important to know.
The walk is gravel and there are inclines and declines - it's not a flat walk until the tunnel portion - with foliage and trees on both sides. There are markers along the way with historical information.
Bring your phone for a flashlight or another light source. It's neat to stand in the tunnel and turn off your light for a bit to experience the darkness. The arched brick of the tunnel is pretty amazing.
There is a port-a-pot at the walk entrance.Written 26 June 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. There are multiple hikes. The hike to Blue Hole is about 3 miles round trip. It is a very dog and kid friendly hike as well.Written 3 September 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - lovethemountains2012Charlottesville, VA64 contributionsHenley's Orchard is a family owned and local fruit orchard in quiet Crozet VA. If you want to get out in the country side, but not far from town, make a stop here. The folks who run the orchard are friendly and helpful. The nectarines, peaches and apples are fresh and tasty. They have a parlor where fresh baked goods, apple cider and other fruit treats will be served later in the season. Look for their Fall Festival!Written 19 July 2015This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
