What travellers are saying
- YHZGlobetrotterWaverley, Canada816 contributionsWe visited Troon for sentimental reasons. My Mother was evacuated here during WWII. I was hoping to see some mention of it somewhere or possibly a museum. But sadly there was nothing. There was however, a spectacular sandy beach. I could picture my Mum there. As a child from the tenements of Glasgow she must have felt like she was on vacation at the seaside. It was too cold to test the waters the day we were there, but we enjoyed the views, the walk, and several hang gliders zipping across the water.Written 12 November 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Carol JMaidstone, UK10 contributionsWe spent a wonderful evening here, learning all about the different whiskies, how they are made, and where they come from. Our host was very informative, very helpful, and we had the opportunity to taste six different whiskies and discuss the difference between them. Well worth a visit, and a lovely birthday gift,Written 23 August 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- Scottish-Hidden-Gems🏴💎Ayrshire, UK6,900 contributionsWe visited recently for the first time in a while, its a great place to spend a few hours in nature, especially for kids and dogs, its got a good fairy trail, swing park, free toilets, plenty of benches, etc.

Gemma is an amazing person with the biggest and friendliest personality. Although I had readings before gemma explained everything before starting. The reading i was given was amazing, so so accurate to life right now and going with these cards excited what's in the future. Would 100% recommend was fabulous ❤️Written 16 March 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Stewart J14 contributionsThis is a route from Troon to Dundonald castle, and could be combined with a visit to the castle (brilliant) and a bus ride back to Troon.
The details are all out on the web so I will just add our thoughts from our walk on March 4th 2020
Not hard walking but stout shoes or boots definitely needed.
Just enjoy the walk on the South Beach for the first part of the walk - don't bother trying to find the 'proper' path (between beach and golf course), but just keep your eyes out for the sign on the dunes and that takes you off the beach and on to the rest of the route.
When you reach Loans walk right through the village and out the other side. There is a 'proper'road sign for Dundonald as you enter the village but you don't want that one. Eventually you will see a Smugglers trail sign.
The signage is a little sparse but it is a trail that if you follow the logical direction you will be fine.
In particular, after Loans and crossing the main road via bridge the signs all but dry up, but there is only one logical way to go at all times and eventually you arrive at Dundonald castle via the reservoir and the wood, the nicest part of the walk.
All in all an achievable interesting walk, great for a mornings outing.Written 5 March 2020This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. He quickly introduced himself and got a sense of what we were looking for. He was knowledgeable about the displayed paintings, prints etc and gave advice and information freely. Due to there being a number of shared interests between John and my husband, we stayed chatting for a while.
After we discarded a number of paintings for various reasons, John pinpointed 4-5 paintings from his back room. We chose 2 and are delighted with how they look in the frames we chose.
A thoroughly enjoyable experience.Written 16 April 2019This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Not much - apart from sandy beach - here and so only a few people about.Written 29 May 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - macedonboyGlasgow, UK179,691 contributionsThe memorial garden stands in tribute to Gordon Brown, the Scottish international rugby player ( not the politician!). Brown played as a lock and was capped 30 times by Scotland. To the right of the entrance is a cairn with a dedication to Brown. The cairn is surmounted by a sculpture of a rugby ball lying on top of a large thistle. The garden is superbly landscaped and beautiful to look at. If you’re on a day trip to Troon, take a short walk from the beach to the library and this memorial garden is right next to it.Written 22 July 2020This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC.
