Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Our Aussie history and the people that are a part of it never cease to amaze us. What an inspirational story about true outback heroes who wouldn’t take no for an answer.

Rev John Flynn’s truly remarkable story is worth exploring. His commitment, along with early aviators, Doctors, Surgeons & Nurses, along with those amazing people behind the first pedal radios for the outback is remarkable. These people were the instigators of the Royal Flying Doctor Service and School of the Air.

Cost us around $11 each to get in and we spent approx. 2 hours taking it all in.

Mary Kathleen Museum has indoor & outdoor exhibits and you can spend hours there if you go through all exhibits’ Lots of historical photographs including Mary Kathleen abandoned uranium mine. There is quite extensive mineral collection, Burke and Wills doomed expedition memorabilia, aboriginal artifacts and heritage objects of the area.

What a great free camp. As you drive in you first come across the flat free camp area near the dam: this looks convenient but with its’ easy caravan access becomes very busy.

With a 4WD and camper trailer we passed through the second gate and wound our way down a slightly rugged track to Camping spots strung out along a watercourse running into the dam. What a great spot. Right on the waters’ edge: birdlife was wonderful and sunset/sunrise splendid.

As you first access the river there are camp spots for maybe 6-8 groups: at this location there is a flush toilet. The track then wanders upstream for some distance with further river bank locations. All very nice.

A thoroughly enjoyable overnights in a special setting.

We stopped in at the Dr DHS Gallery in the library in Cloncurry recently on our way to Mt Isa. We had stopped into the library to get some information, use the computers and borrow a book, since the gallery was there and it was open we had a look. Not bad at all, the Doc has good taste, check it out while you are here, it’s art, take it any way you want.

Not well advertised but another piece of Qantas history. The building has been restored and there are information panels attached to the side. There was no entry when I was there but was worth the ten minutes to see it.
