Rottnest Island is beautiful, calm and photogenic. Every one arrives to this island happy, joyful, relaxing and fun. Little did we know the island's dark history and sad stories. The lady in the museum told us the things happened in the past and the knowledge makes the island more meaningful to visit. November is the month for the breeding of bush flies. They just surround us and poke into our eyes, nostril and mouth for moisture. The quokkas are friendly and cute.

Breathtaking views, chilled out vibe and generally a great place to stop and picnic while you’re cycling around Rottness

Rottnest Island is absolutely worth a visit. We took the SeaLink ferry from Fremantle and hired a bike once we arrived on the Island. Really good organisation (unfortunately in our case the e-bikes were not available anymore, it's best to pre-book them). Take it slowly and do not rush on the road; no-one is chasing you and you risk to miss hidden gems along the way. Be sure you have in your bag plenty of sun cream and water. Take your breaks and have a swim in the amazing waters of this island. Throughout the day you might spot some quokkas (and even blue-tongued skinks!) under the bushes, but if you are back at the pier at around 16-17 you will be surprised to see them comfortably walking around the pedestrian areas.

This island is really cool to visit if you are anywhere near it during your travels! We rented bikes and ride around the island, stopping at all the beautiful beach spots. We also went skydiving while there. The quokkas are adorable and this is the only place in the world that you can see them.

I did one of the loop walks from the ferry docks and headed up the coast and then inland. The lakes are amazing and there are lots of interesting signs to read. I liked the parts where the path was just for walkers and no bikes.

An amazing and unexpected find on this beautiful holiday island. Well preserved gun emplacement, and guided tour of the underground facilities supporting it. Guide very knowledgeable.
There is a second unrestored gun position about 1k away, but I didn’t have time to walk across. Also various other wartime sites on the island to explore.
They take preserving this aspect of their history seriously!

The museum tells the story about incarceration of nearly 4000 aborigines, of which over 200 died. It was a sad story, well told with raw stories from descendants, but didn’t seem to say why many of them were incarcerated, why only aborigines or how it fitted into the Australian penal system.

I gave this 4 stars because of the quokkas we met on our way up to the lighthouse. Even though the lighthouse is the highest point of the island, view of the coast is not that great. There’s a small exhibit in a rock house next to the lighthouse. My friends joined a tour up the lighthouse. At the moment there’s no charge because some part is closed for maintenance.

This was definitely the scenic high point of our tour of Rottnest Island. The rugged limestone cliffs, sapphire blue bay, and eroded arch are very photogenic. A great spot to spend an hour or more.

Geordie Bay Cafe has great coffee and food. We enjoyed breakfast there this morning.
Best for food and coffee on the island.

The lighthouse is an easy walk from the village and wharf area, and is worth a look. The coastal scenery is pretty and the views are good. Plenty of opportunities to see Quokkas too.

A stunning beach with crystal clear waters and white sand. Absolutely breathtaking. Can’t wait to return in the warmer months to swim
