What travellers are saying
- sdah2008New York City, NY57 contributionsFANTASTIC. Great for kids of all ages. Models of famous NYC landmark buildings from all 5 boroughs. Everything was made of all natural fibers. Plants, acorns, sticks, leaves, etc. True learning experience.Written 25 November 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - David DWestchester County, NY77 contributionsMy wife and I had a wonderful time at our Wild Encounter. The Keepers Choice allowed us to see five different animals up close. The staff gave us great details about each animal. Be aware, you cannot touch each species, with the exception of Peaches The Warthog, he doesn’t mind and the keepers let you know when it’s ok.Written 14 November 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Stephanie SRoseland, NJ707 contributionsWe love coming to Yankee stadium. We come here often and always have a great time. The stadium is very clean and has good food options. It’s pricy which we kind of expect. But love going!Written 10 January 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - LeeFayetteville3 contributionsIt's very dirty. It is an island gone bad, full of rich, greedy, and rude people, with lots of empty stores, and angry, yelling 😠people.
I tried to walk the beach. The owner told me he owned the beach and 250 feet into the water. It was a day of stress and disappointment.Written 20 September 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Note that parking is always a problem in this crowded neighborhood, the 15-20 minute walk from the nearby Fordum Avenue train station may save you time & aggravation over circling looking for a parking space.Written 23 December 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - tyagiNew York City, NY400 contributionsWent on a Wednesday night for the concert series in the summer. Enjoyed strolling through some of the gardens. - janice C2 contributionsI was in a complete state of amazement from the front door to the end of the tour. All the history…all of the memorabilia The Hip Hop museum was just amazing to me. It brought back so many great memories. I was so honored to experience just that little bit. I can only imagine how much more amazing it will be once everything‘s inside of the new building.Written 22 March 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - hrobinson1114Nashville, TN2,690 contributionsI’ve seen several cemeteries in NYC. I’ve done Green-Wood in Brooklyn (to see Basquiat), Flushing Cemetery in Queens to see Louis Armstrong, Machpelah Cemetery in Queens (Houdini). Flushing and Machpelah Cemeteries are a little rougher and unkempt. Green-Wood has city views from atop the hill and nice benches to sit on and reflecting pools.
I rated Woodlawn five stars for a few reasons. Yes, you have to hoof it all the way out to the Bronx to the last stop on the train—Woodlawn station (I visited in conjunction with the New York Transit Museum’s vintage ride in a 1920’s railway car).
But the cemetery is clean and well kept and full of mausoleums (some very impressive!). They have trolley tours, but the in person by foot tour is very interesting!
Duke Ellington, Miles Davis, Herman Melville are all buried here, as well as several other notable authors, musicians, and celebrities.
Nice to walk around, though not as many places to sit as Green-Wood. Lots of pretty trees—nice to see in the summer. There are lots of wide roads if you prefer driving to walking. Somehow this cemetery seems a little more accessible than Green-Wood.
The tour is what bumped this up from four stars to five (oh, and Melville’s grave is cooler than you think).Written 22 October 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. You can get here by subway.Written 25 April 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- nickib983New York City, NY1,272 contributionsThis was our second class trip to Bartow-Pell. The first trip we did Servants Life in the 1800s and the kids made butter and candles. We saw the mansion, carriage house, and gardens. We are on the beautiful back patio. This time, we focused on toys and games of the 1800s, but the weather wasn’t with us. We got to tour the mansion and made a zoetrope. The kids all said it was the best class trip they have ever been on. My coteacher and I agree. Our tour guides, Niko and Maxine, were so pleasant and knowledgeable. The students couldn’t stop asking questions. We highly recommend a visit here for families, classes, and anybody who loves history.Written 17 December 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Scott BWantagh, NY643 contributionsA lot of trails for hiking and biking throughout the entire park. The views of the bay in the fall were really nice, long grass along the sea surrounded by trees. We saw signs for golfing, and the crescent shaped Orchard beach was good size, with an old deteriorating bathhouse in the middle of it. Probably completely full in the summer. A huge boat themed playground for kids, softball and baseball fields, squash and tennis courts, etc.Written 3 October 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - dustythoughtsManchester, CT1,809 contributionsI’m a fan of Edgar Allan Poe and was excited to visit his home. It’s small and unassuming, but the Poe family seemed to enjoy living here, although his wife died of tuberculosis in this house. Entrance is only $5, and you can also dial in to an audio tour from your phone. The staff were friendly and knowledgeable, and there are subway stations nearby.Written 6 May 2020This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC.
