My partner and I have been to Portugal many times but had never been to the Douro valley. This tour was a great way to get to know the area. Our tour guide, Pedro was very knowledgeable and we learned about the history of the region. He was very personable and ensured everyone on the tour was engaged in the experience. We enjoyed our stop in amarante for coffee and pastries. Lunch was great as well. - MonikadeeeKodak, TN21 contributionsIt will be hard to express what a wonderful trip this is but I will try. First our guide Mirek was truly charming and the best host we could have asked for! We wanted to get out of the city and experience Poland for what it is other than the touristy stuff. Mirek did not disappoint! As we drove to each of our stops he talked about Polands rich history, environment, culture! He even stopped to let us take pictures of the amazing Storks nesting along the roadside!
Our first stop was for cheese and vodka tasting. Mirek gave the history of cheese smoking, we toured the smokehouse, had the most amazing cheese, dangerous vodka, and had lunch.
Our second stop was the Czorsztyn Castle. This is absolutely breathtaking! Learned some amazing history and saw breathtaking views!
Our third stop was the rafting trip down the river through the National park! This was the most relaxing beautiful part of our trip! 2 hours on the water, between the mountains was indescribable!
We finished our trip with mineral water tasting and a trip up a sky slope for more amazing views. The water tasting was interesting! I have never tasted more mineral dense water in my life! After dinner at the sky resort we traveled home talking about everything from our family’s to world views.
If I could give this tour more than 5 stars I would! Book this trip over any other trip on your list! He was knowledgeable, entertaining and attentive to our needs and questions. Our group had many laughs and throughly enjoyed the day. Our guide Nuno was so knowledgeable about the area, and about Portugal's history in general, and he made our visit more meaningful. He even went the extra mile of checking the weather, and when he saw that it would be foggy and cloudy the day of our tour, he took it upon himself to offer to move our tour date so that we would be able to enjoy and appreciate the spectacular views. Nuno is so friendly, respectful, and his deep love for Portugal really comes through. He was also very flexible and customized our itinerary to accommodate some of our special requests. He picked the best restaurant for our lunch too! We couldn't have asked for a better guide. - alexisreed1 contributionAbsolutely loved working with Northern Hikes! Our guide Marek was enjoyable to be around and full of knowledge. He got to know each of us and had pleasant conversations!
I want to call out the office staff at Northern Hikes. Wow! I am very impressed and appreciative with their level of communication. They were transparent and upfront with recent changes due to weather and gave us options. They paid for a taxi when the driving situation got changed last minute as well. So nice and so kind!
If you’re at all considering this company, I will say look no further. This is who you want to travel and tour with!
