Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Museum is small and open limited hours but what makes it worthwhile are the people who work there who provide the tours of the railroad cars and tell the stories and history of railroad travel and the men and women who worked on the trains. We had an excellent guide who took us on the train cars and explained not only the mechanics of the train and equipment but personal stories and his own family history of what it was like to work on them. Inside a woman was telling stories about Abraham Lincoln and other people related to artifacts too. There were many people working because of the annual Railroad Days event we were attending. I would recommend this as a stop to make for train fans during this event.

So glad we took the time to visit! This was not part of our itinerary, but I’m so glad we stopped.
Entered the visitor center and greeted by a very friendly and informative docent. We started with a professional video that gave an overview of Carl Sandburg’s life (don’t skip the video). The visitor center also has a small gift shop and a room full of interesting artifacts.
The docent then walked with us to the home. The stories about the local area and Carl Sandburg were very interesting.

One of the few places you can still visit where Lincoln and Douglas debated. It's featured at the Lincoln Museum in Springfield. Plus the campus itself is very nice.

This historic building on Main Street (at Seminary Street) has the first two floor filled with antiques. It is generally a fairly neat, tidy place as an antique store. Some parts have narrow aisles, but one can get around easily. There are usually several people around that you can ask for help. (Don't come at ten minutes before closing. Many workers will have already gone home and the few left need to leave to go back to their families. This is a big place and you will need an hour or two if you want to view all the antiques.)
Most of the third floor is filled with History of Galesburg exhibits. Sadly, many exhibits are about the big businesses that no longer are in Galesburg.

Great poster display of the past Railroad Days Poster. There is also a nice display of Reagan artifacts from when he and Nancy lived in Galesburg, a nice Carl Sandburg Display, a nice Mother Beiderbyck Display and many pamphlets about Galesburg attractions.

Activities and beautiful art work can be found in this fun glass studio. Go take a class, or buy a gift for a friend or family. Much can be found behind the windows full of stained glass.

I live in the Chicago suburbs but visit Galesburg regularly. I do a lot of genealogy research and I’ve found more books and microfiche at the Galesburg Public Library to help me find my family tree than most in Chicago! Not just Central Illinois but all 50 states (some better than others.) A knowledgeable, polite staff as well!

A meandering store with numerous rooms packed to the gills with lots of early 20th century furniture and accoutrements. Lots of cabinets and dressers. Amiable and knowledgeable owner on site. Upstairs area has a limited array of architectural salvage, including many doors, grates, smaller cast iron decorative pieces, trim pieces and salvaged wood. Worth the stop if you're in town.

This little dive bar is very laid back, good spot to enjoy a cold one. They have dart boards and a pool table inside, then an entire outdoor area with an outside bar, huge seating area, stage, three fire pits, and a sand volleyball area. The drink prices are very reasonable and the staff were friendly.

Creations by Carolina is a wonderful gem right on Main Street in Galesburg. I left with two bags full of incredible, reasonably priced, gifts for all my loved ones. This shop offers classes (with in progress projects located within the shop), and Val (one of the owners) was incredibly patient as I learned how to design, cut, and make my stain glass piece. If you are in need of any repairs to stain glass windows, lamps, or china hutches, it is evident this place will take its time to make sure your treasured piece is safely returned and upgraded. Thank you for such a great experience!
