Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

We did the $10 comedy show with our teenage kids the last night of our trip. It was great. Despite the groans beforehand, everyone had a good time. Out of the note and off the electronic devices for an hour! We would do it again for sure!

Must See! I wasn't expecting to much as usually this type of humor isn't my thing. It was a great night of laughs and because its called Drunken Shakespeare, you could go again and get a totally different experience. Getting tickets was a last minute decision and I am so glad we did.

Our family attended the 8 pm Friday show of ComedySportz while on vacation in Chicago. Having never been to an improv show we didn’t know what to expect but I am so glad we decided to go. The show was very upbeat and interactive with audience members. The improv actors are entertaining and talented beyond belief. It was a great night out with our two teenagers!!

The Shakespeare improv is the best! These are a talented group of actors. I have been here several times and I am amazed at how different each show is and how clever and talent the actors are. I have come with family and I have come with friends. I don’t know about you but in the last couple months I could use a laugh. The Shakespeare improv delivers.I have only come for the Shakespeare. I would assume the other shows are equally well done. I have found this is a great event to plan with a group. The tickets are a reasonable $20 plus fees. The bar is reasonably priced and drinks can be brought into the theater. The staff worked with me to see our group of 14 together. They were very nice and helpful. There are restaurants and bars within a block of the theater. We found the theater bar to be perfectly adequate and they serve appetizers to order.

I had no idea what to expect. I knew it was a one woman show and bingo was played at some point. It was HILARIOUS! As a Catholic school “survivor” there was so much to laugh at. All the other audience members laughed as well. I will admit there were moments I found more humor in it than others but that made it that much more enjoyable all around. I’ll be back for Late Night Catechism soon enough!

Went here with family on our trip to Chicago. Small, intimate theater with a rich comedic history. Stage is small which would be difficult for a physical comic, but the crowd is very close, so good vantage points for patrons. Having been to a lot of comedy shows, I appreciate the close proximity to the performers. A great place to discover up and coming talent. The venue would maybe benefit from expanding in size if possible just to accompany more people, thus a little more space. Then again as long as the comedians stay funny, laughter can cure all!

We saw the Hallmark Christmas review and loved it’s irreverence. The drinks were good and not badly priced. The show again was hilarious, especially the audience participation parts.

When in Chicago, go see improv at the Annoyance theatre or at IO Chicago. The Annoyance theatre tends to break the rules with their improv. I came on a Saturday night and saw House and Brew. They are one of their house improv teams. It was good not as good as I had expected though having seen many of their other shows. I also stuck around for their Burlesque show at 10:30. It was a very good sketch show and yes they end up going topless. The character work was great.

I can't believe I didn't know about this show until now! The players are talented, funny, and creative-- tons of unexpected moments.. Our show was called Barb's 70th Birthday and they took it to a weird and hilarious place. We actually went home humming some of the songs! I can't wait to go again.

We chose The Comedy Bar because of the price, to be honest. Other more notable comedy houses in Chicago (Second City, Laugh Factory, etc.) cost 2-3x more than here, but they also provide a higher level of talent and value.

Located directly next to Gino's East pizzeria, the door is easy to miss. Go upstairs where the entire spread opens up. The staff were friendly enough and very helpful, seating is where they place you. If you choose to order food, much of it comes from Gino's next door, which is probably marked up. you would be better off just eating before you go to the show. Mixed drinks were okay, not top tier, but they didn't suck either.

The comedians were fine. Some have experience on late night cable or variety shows, others seemed more local. For example, the headliner was "as seen 3X on Conan!". He was good, but getting to him was a mixed bag.

With all of this said - if you're looking to spend your weekend wad on one comedy show, go to Second City. But if you're looking for a fun time at a reasonable price, which leaves extra to go somewhere else afterwards, then The Comedy Bar is a great choice!

A groups of friends and I found ourselves stranded in the city after our river bot tour was cancelled as result of terrible weather. Embracing spontaneity we popped into Laugh Out Loud knowing that the art of improvisation is just as famous as the crime heads of old in this city in hopes of experiences some raw Chicago culture. It did not disappoint! Despite being a bar, any shows before the hour of 9p are family-friendly. Tickets run $20 and are your hard earned money well spent! Side splitting laughter at this all female cast (that evening) and great hang out spot when the show wraps.

The whole experience was great, because of the comedians.
But I really don't understand why it's so chill to just take my card and only return it when the show is over. Just get a POS over and let me pay separately each time.
Not to mention it was super hard to get the waiters' attention.

I loved this non-stop, high energy production. It was great laughter therapy. The cast were so talented with wonderful singing voices. I totally recommend this show

R-rated brutal comedy battles joke for joke, the same great show that's online but live. This was one of the first comedy shows I attended free of covid regulations and it was well worth it.

You can't come to Chicago and not visit a comedy club. This club has an amazing ambiance with a very helpful staff (especially Eric the bartender who kindly ushered us in even though we were late for the show). The comedy is hilarious and everything is so relaxed, setting up a fun evening full of laughter. The great feature about this club is that it's very intimate and I love supporting local comedians, so definitely come out and experience the comedy scene that has become so famous in the Windy City.
