Out of the note and off the electronic devices for an hour! - mylesfireAustin, TX231 contributionsSuper fun on a Thursday night while on holiday in Chicago. $15 is very reasonable cover for two good bands each playing full hour sets. It is set up as two separate, adjacent rooms, each with a stage for bands which rotate sets through the night, so we just went from one room to the other for three plus hours. The music was very good, starting with singer/guitar slinger Joanna Connor supported by very capable young band, playing blues but not the usual limited three chord changes. Keyboardist was very talented. Song "People Get Ready" was superb showcase for her voice, while other tunes were more upbeat. Vance Kelly band was a larger group playing funk, soul and R&B in the larger room (e.g. James Brown, Kool & the Gang, and Ike & Tina) and there was a lot of orderly audience dancing. Sax player was outstanding. Some folks ordered food which looked good; I had only a large, heated pretzel which hit the spot. Location felt safe with police car parked across street as we exited at midnight. I did not know to ask so I missed the senior discount when ordering tix at the window. does not matter. It was a great night of laughs and because its called Drunken Shakespeare, you could go again and get a totally different experience. - Travelling86London, UK31 contributionsMy friend and I went for a cocktail after brunch as I’d not done any of the observatories during my visit to the city. This was a great way to see the view whilst enjoying a cocktail (approx $16 a cocktail but not entrance fees). It was very busy when we went but tables turn pretty quickly and we sat at the bar so only waited about 5 minutes. - Edie S28 contributionsWe had a wonderful experience recently at Winter's Jazz Club, where the music (Pharez Whitted Quintet) and venue were both outstanding. This is the place to go for true music lovers! It is elegant and sophisticated without being pretentious at all, and the focus is very much on the music.
As others have mentioned, this is a performance venue that serves drinks, definitely not a "see and be seen" type of club or place to socialize (although it would be highly romantic for a date).
I attended with my jazz-loving teenager, and we felt totally comfortable and welcome. Staff were warm and professional. Soft drinks are offered along with bar menu. We had VIP seating, but truly it is so small that all the seats are excellent. Having never been to an improv show we didn’t know what to expect but I am so glad we decided to go. The show was very upbeat and interactive with audience members. The improv actors are entertaining and talented beyond belief.
