Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Gorgeous little cathedral tucked away in Millport. We enjoyed a quick visit with our kids and they mainly enjoyed playing in the cute garden and woodland surrounds. Truly quaint and beautiful

Located just along the seafront by the public toilets and just past the sign for the Cathedral of the Isles, this is a very nicely painted rock in the shape of a crocodile.

Be prepared to queue to take a photo.

Newton Beach is the small shingle/sandy beach that lies below the promenade in the centre of Millport. With gently sloping sand into shallow water it is ideal for families and its intertidal rock pools add extra interest and fun while the stunning views of the Eileans, Little Cumbrae and the Clyde Estuary make the perfect backdrop.

The beach is highly rated and has received a Beach Award from Keep Scotland Beautiful.

On the side of the road between the Millport and ferry, you can't miss this - and it does look like a lion too, especially from the north side.

    Admire in passing.

The aquarium section has recently been renovated and now appears much more professional. The museum section is now more geared to kids and of less interest to the adult visitor than it used to be.

Garrison House is an attractive building on the sea front overlooking the bay. There is a very good small museum on the ground floor covering the history of Millport. The cafe is good (eat in or out in the courtyard) and it has excellent toilets too.

Worth a visit and it's free. The seats in the sunken garden in front of the building are a great place to drop out.

...cos I never get up early enough for sunrise.
A great walk up from the town to get the most wonderful views, and the views at sunset are magnificent.

A wonderfully unusual little landmark opposite a wonderful bay.
Just hope the PC/Woke brigade don't get hold of it

  • Noone knows why this WW1 german cannon is on the island, there used to be 2 if them but one disappeared. Its hidden away behind a small brick wall but interesting all the same!

  • Recently new fairy trail all around millport, many within the cathedral gardens, fun for all the family and proceeds go to charity!
You can even purchase your own fairy door to add to the trail from the gallery shop.

Well, in my mind. The mysterious, untranslatable engravings on the stone and the faerie nymphs dancing around at midnight on midsummer's day! And a lovely walk to get there

My daughter loves it here, especially when there's no one else around. Need flip flops or the like to walk on the beach, but its a great paddling location, lovely views, lots of beach for the little one and a great place for a picnic

Wow what a fascinating presentation of the history of Gin and it’s connection to Isle of Cumbrae. Amanda the Distillery Manager was so welcoming and knowledgeable. I was there with my friend Joyce. We tried 4 of the Gins, all very different, something for everyone. Our favourite was Nostalgin, beautifully smooth! You get a small gift too. Well worth a visit.
