This is a place which has been developed and modified over a thousand years. The building are all rich in history and the landscape is beautiful. This is one of the many under-rated attractions in this province, and a must-to-visit when you are in Taiyuan.

I went and it was free of charge. The museum was very big and there were enough exhibits for me to walk around for 3 hours. The cafe was nice and relaxing and we finished the day at the gift shop.

Jinci Temple is located here as well as a range of historical buildings. The historical buildings in the park are well preserved.

Could spend hours walking through this park. Very beautiful during the day but absolutely stunning at night with all the beautiful lights. Feels very safe at any time of day.

This is the top tourist attraction in Taiyuan along Jinci temple. They are not far from each other. This is why I would recommend visiting both places on the same day. In my case I decided to visit Jinci temple first in the morning. You need to catch bus number 856 from the city center. You will get off at 普祠公园. Once your visit has come to its end, you will be ready for the second half of your trip. Please bear in mind that heading for Mengshan Buddha requires you to take a cab as there is no direct bus. Catching a taxi is easy. Nearby Jinci temple there is a parking lot. There you will be able to find a taxi driver who will bring you to your destination. It takes ten minutes only and the cost is around 30 RMB. Therefore it's pretty cheap.
I would definitely recommend visiting this place. This Buddha is even older than the one in Leshan (Sichuan) and it's truly beautiful. All the area is simply astonishing. The place where the Buddha stands (actually sits) is surrounded by green hills. There is also a nice creek. So for those who love meditative places and nature, this is the best solution.

Place is nice but nothing out of the ordinary. There are shops and restaurants and food stands. Worth a visit.

It's nice to see one or two little pieces of history still left in Taiyuan, which is mostly a city of urban sprawl.
I took a taxi to the twin pagodas from the hotel, after 2 taxi's refused to take me there for unknown reasons. The third taxi dropped me off in view of the site (when he saw new customers), but it was still a 1 Km walk in hot summer sun, through a shanty town to get there! Make sure the driver drops you off right at the gate or be prepared to walk through a maze of motorcycle shops and fenced off construction to get there.
Note that you need to buy a 30 Yuan ticket at the house downstairs before you alight the stairs and watch the step as you enter, as it trips everyone up including children.
The area itself is not large but the towers are worth seeing close up and see what they (the first one which is open) is like inside. As one reviewer below suggests, people who are claustrophobic or not good on their feet shouldn't try and climb it to the top.
Visitors without arranged transport may have trouble leaving the site to get back as I didn't see a lot of taxis around and the bus had long departed when I arrived.

This is one of several reviews of the same place called Jinci. It is a mandatory visit because it contains the rich history of this place from 1500 years ago. There are many legends that can be told about this place so find a good tour guide. Originally this temple was to remember Tang Shuyu, a founder of the Jin State during the Spring Autumn Period (that's why it is called "Jinci". But during the Song Dynasty, this was changed to commemorate his mother instead and the Song Emperor felt there is no need for great leaders to arise to usurp his dynasty. Some of the surrounding "Dragon" mountains were also levelled to destroy the auspicious "fengshui."
The main temple is constructed with Song architecture with angled pillars to reduce the number of pillars overall so as to create a more open internal space.

It’s mostly foods that you probably would’ve never tried. A lot of things like octopus and sting ray! Very exciting ! I didn’t try any myself but I’d recommend going and trying something new.
