This castle is part of historic Roscommon, and shows signs of being partially restored for safety and kept for future generations, it sits in a beautiful park which is a good space for those taking exercise and has a playground for younger children. Even in grey January the birds were singing and it was peaceful. There are helpful signs about the castle’s historic past and it was a pleasant way to pass time here. The castle was originally built in the 13th century for the English King Henry III and raided by Irish Kings of Connacht whose sculptural faces are part of the park’s decorative additions. Later it became a home rather than a stronghold, and the layout changed to provide formal gardens and “modern” amenities for the occupants.

Beautiful a must if in most common, absolutely beautiful, tranquil, peaceful atmosphere. parking on site very central to town. You can light some candles. Say some prayers. I think they also do a tour as we seen turbos as in the car parked sadly the public toilets that said we belong to the church we’re not available if they were locked.

Visited here on Friday - got a very good demo from Alison of how the pipes are made and a lot of information on the local history. Recommended for a short visit. 😊

grand little racecourse, good day out if you like racing, beautiful scenery, food was utter rubbish as is normal for racecourses, and 3 euro for a bottle of water is extreme.

Very quiet relaxed campsite, run by a really lovely welcoming couple. Great facilities, everything to make your stay comfortable. Ruins of Galey castle right on the doorstep & on the shore of lough Ree with easy access to the water. Lough boat can be hired from owners.

We booked the whole Sauna out for the hour, it was great to have it to ourselves and I would definitely recommend the full hour as we were only getting into the swing of it about 20 minutes in. The heat of the sauna and the cool of the lake is just so healing, we all felt so happy afterwards. A lovely way to spend time with friends relaxing, chatting catching up. Highly recommend the owners were lovely too and answered all of our questions! We also had a rainbow which made it extra magical!

Have always enjoyed any event I have attended here. Find the staff helpful and friendly. A well run centre with a wide choice of events.

I was visiting Roscommon to learn more about my ancestors who came to America during the Famine in 1848. I found the staff at the library to be extremely helpful and accommodating. They provided knowledgeable answers to my inquiries and great assistance in locating source documents.

The home of the Rossies, not a great place to visit if you're not into GAA. Despite Roscommon's lack of real success since 1940s they will probably still lift Sam before Mayo.

The attraction is a sculptural memorial. Co. Roscommon was hard hit by the famine of 1840s. Of the places hard hit, Roscommon Workhouse was one of the worst. The Workhouse which still stands behind the sculpture, was built in 1843, to cater for the acute needs of the people of the area. There was a conflict between rate payers who paid for the workhouse and the non-rate-payers who needed the facilities. In December 1847 this workhouse was in £6,000 debt. The average number of occupants was 1,767 people while relief was given to 21,000in soup kitchens.

Excellent place in Roscommon for kids with special needs. It is a safe place and some options to kids explore, enjoy and have a fun. There is no cafe but is possible to buy on shopping nearly there. They accept card and cash, is avaible to make small Kids party.
