Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

We had a lovely time on the Slane whiskey tour. Great for locals as well as tourists.

Our tour guide was excellent. Very knowledgeable, enthusiastic and passionate about the estate, its history, music and sustainability program.

Went for a drive today and decide to go to Slane and where is better to visit than the famous Slane Castle, home of Lord Montcharles and his family and venue for many famous music concerts over the years. The Slane Distillery is there too and you can do the distillery tour, which we have not done yet. We had coffee in the bar and a lovely walk in the grounds.

The Hill of Slane is very central to Slane village, drive up a steep hill to the carpark and the rest is a short walk up a steep hill. There is information about how St Patrick lit the first Easter bomb fire here and then a church and priory were built and the ruins are lovely to visit and the view is fantastic. We also visited the Littlewood forest up the road which was a nice 2.6km walk and Georges Patisserie nearby, highly recommended

We had a great afternoon at Ledwidge Museum. The lady who gave us the talk was so knowledgable and interesting-it was almost like she knew him personally! Happy to chat and answer questions. Amazing to see copies of letters he wrote-pieces of history right in front of us. Thoroughly enjoyed our time there-thank you!

Lovely house and fantastic facilities. Hot tub, outdoor pizza oven, plenty of space for groups to stay....an amazing place for a holiday or retreat.

Littlewood Forest is a beautiful place for a walk only a couple of minutes drive north of Slane along the N2 in the direction of Collon. The Coillte (Irish Forestry Board) website says the trial is about 2km and should take 40 minutes but to be honest, I took a lot longer as I kept stopping to drink in the peace and listen to the birdsong.
It is a very flat trial with loose chippings, as long as you have comfortable walking shoes or trainers it will be no bother to anyone regardless of fitness levels.
There is a small car park at the entrance by the main N2 and the trial starts and ends from there.
There are not many display boards which is a shame as I'd love to lesarn more about the flora and fauna. Ther eis info on a board in the car par and maybe once of twice along the route but if there is one suggestion I'd have is that there could be more.
It is beautifully kept but not overly manicured as the bushes and trees are left to grow naturally and are not 'gardened' to make them "pretty" or tidy. Littlewood is beautiful for exactly the opposite reason, it is natural.
The forest was originally planted in the 1840's and is a mixture of conifers and broadleaves, it was brought into state ownership in 1963.
It is ideal for an easy, relaxing walk.

What a great little local bar. Well run & very popular. We were staying in the nearby hotel to celebrate my husband’s upcoming birthday.
We popped in just after opening & sat chatting with John who runs the bar. A friendly guy who has a great rapport with his locals & blow ins☺️
We came back later that night as he told us there’d be some live music on. What a session - a great night. Very entertaining & well done to all the musicians on the night. A very talented bunch.
Best wishes John. Have a great Christmas & we hope 2024 is a great year for you.

    Local shop for me.
Local service with local suppliers. Always chit chat when you come in and a good pint of Guinness in the Bar. Nothing bad possibly to say

Really enjoyed our four hour trip around Meath with Ronan. He was a great host and he seemed to know everybody and funny stories about everywhere we went. We passed by Newgrange and went for a pint at a lovely old man's pub near Slane. Then onto a cider mill where we saw a man make homemade cider (which tested amazing). 100% recommend this trip.
