Chanh was a great tour guide and made the trek enjoyable despite the cloud cover ruining the views on day 1. The homestay was also good fun where we got the chance to help with cooking and have a herbal foot bath. Overall a great trip. Only negative being the bed was very firm. - Adam R1 contributionI had a phenomenal trip organised by this team, everything was made so easy for me, everyone worked together to ensure I had a great experience.
I was very lucky at the time to visit Sapa, I had perfect sunny weather and not many other tourists have returned since Vietnam recently opened the borders. This meant the hiking tracks and scenery were pristine with stunning views of the farmlands and villages. The team provided me a very comfortable return bus trip and an amazing hotel with views of the mountains across the valley.
I was shown the hidden mountain tracks by a fantastic local guide named KIN, who knew the region inside and out, as we walked along a track he would find a sneaky path to take us to many beautiful trails and views. I really enjoy hiking and experiencing more difficult trails and Kin made the adventure very challenging and rewarding with the best untouched spots, but he is also able to accomodate if you would prefer easier main roads. Also he was like a gosh darn butterfly, I left the hikes each day with my shoes and legs slapped with mud and this man seemed to float across any obstacles like a ninja wearing dress pants! Would strongly recommend.
My home stay was also wonderful, the family was very welcoming and understanding of my naivety. It is most important to be patient, respectful and kind while you are there. The bungalow I stayed in was very comfortable, I had a great bed with fly nets and my own bathroom. AC is there if you need it.
My host was very friendly and we cooked a delicious local meal together with the family, if your are lucky and keen you may even get to be floored by the ‘happy water’.
Now if you’re as lucky as me you may get a chance to experience some family celebrations, there happened to be a party organised by the family for their friends at lunch time on my last day, with a whole roast pig and other delicious local food, everyone was extremely welcoming and eager to share a drink together. At the end some of the attendees had prepared a dance and then everyone got a chance for a bit of a boogie when they had finished.
There will be a few moments throughout the trip where you may not know what is happening or where you are meant to be, especially with various people picking you up and dropping you off places, but whenever this happened I just messaged the organiser Thomas and he would tell me exactly what I needed to know. Also, enjoy and embrace the chaos, it’s part of the adventure.

Sapa was colder compared to the sea side of course but still beautiful! When we arrived at the village, a lot of people went to homestays. My reservation was with a hotel however I wanted to change and the team arranged this for me there and then. Overall the customer support was great over the entire trip! The price is also really good compared to what you find in Hanoi on the streets offered by various tour agents. I wish I stopped and rented the local costume from one of the shop we passed by before entering Cat Cat Village. I felt so regret. Very beautiful place and it’s better to be in local costume in the pictures. Trust me! We had a long walk in the rice fields. Make sure you wear trekking shoes, it’s slippery when going down. The scenic views were awesome, worths all our efforts, but not suitable for seniors. Keep yourself light and bring sufficient water. All meals were provided, not bad. There were local paddlers following us the entire trip on Day 2, please be prepared for it and we were confused at first if they were part of the tour guiding team. - TulipjacketCheltenham, UK5 contributionsThis really was the trip of a lifetime - we felt so privileged to meet the local people and visit their villages and the town of Sapa. Our guide, Lala was particularly amazing, so knowledgeable, friendly and patient.
The landscape and scenery is honestly unforgettable and a perfect way to start our holiday in Vietnam!
The hotel was ok, quite basic and a not very clean, but to be honest it was not a big deal as the destination and landscape speaks for itself! If we booked again we would probably go for a home stay option.
The tour was two days of walks across wonderful landscape with amazing views, the food was great too and we got to meet some lovely people along the way. The only other thing I was say is that the description says there is a chance for swimming in waterfalls, but this wasn’t the case and we didn’t get the chance.
Apart from that everything was perfect! I would highly recommend this trip! - shaun k1 contributionI would highly recommend this tour to anyone going to sapa. It was a truly magical journey and well worth the effort of making it to the top. The guide Minh was a lovely fella with very good english who filled us in about the local knowledge of the area. We also had a porter who carried up a lot of the gear we used over the two days.
Some tips on what to bring:
No need for snacks (the guys feed you so much its amazing)
Trekking shoes not 100% essential but are a bonus (we did it in running shoes)
A good hat, gloves, warm coat and a raincoat would be essential items in my eyes.
Get a bamboo walking stick as you go up as it will help in the later more steep stages of the hike.Written 25 April 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of TripAdvisor LLC. - Rob2309Southend-on-Sea, UK26 contributionsOn the first morning you are picked up from your hotel in Hanoi and taken on a short trip to a bus depot to catch a sleeper bus. Pack a small suitcase for the over night stay and take a small rucksack for the journey - no eating on the bus (there are two pit stops). Really comfy journey and I’m 6’1.
You get to a hotel and have a nice set menu lunch. There was too much food and we couldn’t eat it all.
Then the trekking starts. We left our case at the first hotel and off we went.
Day 1 is down to Cat Cat village, it’s an instagramers dream! It feels a bit like hobbit land, clearly built for tourists with lots of selfie opportunities. I was slightly disappointed with this at first as it didn’t feel like trekking, however on Day 2, I realised that Day 1 was just a warm up session haha.
Our 5* hotel that night - Poas, was just amazing, sadly because of the ‘corona virus’ scare, it felt like we were the only ones there as many people have cancelled their bookings.
The service and welcome we received from start to finish was absolute first class. Sadly being in the mountains in Feb the clouds rolled in and we woke up to a view of thick cloud, you have to expect that.
The next morning we were given a choice of the easy route or the narrower route with more stunning scenery. Of course we opted for the narrow route, trekking through the rice paddies. Wear sensible shoes! I had decent grips on mine and it was a struggle. It may be easier later in the year, but it was muddy and slippery. Seriously good fun and a great workout for the leg muscles.
Luckily, you are followed around by a few ladies from the village, they are saviours! They will try to sell you their scarfs etc at the end which I had no issue with after the help they provided. I bought a head scarf and a couple of trinkets - very cheap. I did also tip all three of them as without their assistance it would have been less fun. I also didn’t haggle, £6 for a scarf is a lot of money to them.
There was one point, one of the ladies noticed a certain rare plant growing on a steep side. It was funny to see how excited they all got trying to clamber up to it to pick it. It was a really sour stem, our guide stripped it and let us try some.
Which links us lastly onto LaLa! Almost perfectly fluent in English, she actually lives in the last village and seemed to get real genuine joy in answering all of your questions, about village life, their culture and traditions. Family rice paddies are handed down to boys, they collect wood for 4 years in advance to build their house etc.
All in all we were aching by the end of it but really loved the experience. The whole trip was very well organized, the guides were super knowledgeable and friendly and the homestay was so much better than expected!
You take a relaxing sleeping bus out there (stop off twice, take money to use bathrooms), arrive for lunch then trek through villages to your homestay for dinner.
The next day you have breakfast at your homestay trek to a lunch spot then ride into town for a nice warm shower before driving back to Hanoi.

My Hmong guide Cha Cha "made" the trip for me. She guided me through the rice paddies to the top of the mountain overlooking SaPa our 1st day. Great views at the top & along the way. Lunch with Hmong family was truly an incredible experience. You will see & get a much better appreciation of how the Hmong live if you spend at least a night or two in the mountains with a family. We saw a grandmother tending water buffalo near the top of the mountain, ladies making traditional clothes to wear, all kinds of cooking, & rice planting. Truly amazing experience. Mr Tinh was very helpful and communicative when booking, and made everything easy despite a few hiccups with the Trip Advisor booking on our side.
Our guide Sing was fantastic, very friendly and informative and he set a pace to suit us. The lunch he made us was delicious and kept us going for the afternoon!
The scenery was beautiful and we saw far more than we would ever have been able to see by ourselves.
