Galeria Namu
#1 of 20 Museums in San Jose
Easy walking distance from the Teatro Nacional, this gallery has excellent reproductions of jewelry in the national museum, paintings by local artists, basketry, glass work, carvings, etc.
Though some of the products were quite spectacular, museum quality pieces, we were able to find a small, lovely, detailed hand-painted mask for only $21.
Museo de Arte Costarricense

If you like small museums or galleries this is a perfect choice.
This intimate little museum, although small, is full of wonderful works that chronicle the contributions of famous Costa Rican artists through different periods of art and media.

Jade Museum

I recommend to start this "tour" in Museo Nacional then visit the Jade and Gold museums, go to the central market in San Jose, have lunch (if you like picnics, you can do it at La Sabana) and finish in the Art museum
Best museum in San Jose! Loved exploring the several floors of Costa Rica's history and culture.

The gold creations and art created by the precolumbian people may be considered better than some of the recent art I have seen in some more modern museums.

It had a little of everything from artifacts to a colonial home to explore... My daughter's really enjoyed the butterfly garden.. It's a must see if you visit San Jose.. one of our favorite museums!!
The pre-columbian history museums were very educational.

Museo de los Ninos

We have very high expectations for Science centers and for Kids museums, as we have been to some of the best ones in the world, and this one surprised me.
I've been to children's museums before, but this is the biggest I've ever seen.

Definitely a most if you are into museums, history and heritage.
This museum is full of exceptional pieces of carved jade...and there is one exhibit which shows all sizes of dildoes which were used in initiation ceremonies on young virgins in the long distant past...thank goodn...

The museum does makes a nice walking through feeling around the art, so you just have to flow with the design.
The museum covers covers a wide range of contemporary Arts and Design.

This museum has a vast and very well preserved collection of species and replicas (for what I understand one of the most impressive in Latin America).
A wonderful little-known museum

The museum building (adaptive reuse of an existing liquor factory) is worth seeing in itself, but the exhibitions provide anyone interested in contemporary art culture valuable insight into the work of artists in...
The facility is a former liquor distillery that has been reworked to serve as the museum and also offices for the ministry of culture, When we were finished on the formal display area, we turned to the left as we...
