My friend and I booked this tour to add to the end of a week-long visit to Shanghai. We were looking to complement our busy city trip with some nature and culture in the beautiful Huangshan.

Our tour guide was Mr. Jack. He was professional, kind, and spoke very good English – but above all, he was extremely positive throughout the 3-day tour and passionate to share his immense knowledge about the area. He led our visit to Tunxi Village, Hongcun Village, and the Yellow Mountain very well. My friend and I felt very comfortable with the pace of the tour, and we really liked how Mr. Jack frequently checked in on us to make any necessary changes to our schedule and itinerary in oder to suit our preferences.

Mr. Jack picked us up from the train station and introduced us to our driver, Mr. Hu, who drove us to each location safely. Our first stop was a local restaurant on Tunxi Ancient Street called Mei Shi Ren Jia. We were positively overwhelmed with the choice and variety of food available, so Mr. Jack chose several dishes for us. The food was absolutely delicious and we ate calmly without rush. Before driving to Hongcun Village, Mr. Jack walked us through the old but well-perserved ancient street of Tunxi. The highlight of this day was the visit to Hu Kaiwen Ink Factory, where we learned how traditional Chinese ink sticks are made.

Hongcun Village was really beautiful and Mr. Jack took some wonderful photos of us and the scenery which he later shared with us. This village was very interesting to explore and I would have liked to stay overnight here if we hadn’t already arranged our accommodation in the countryside. We slept at the Pig’s Inn Boutique Hotel. Absolutely beautiful location and a very unique experience. Mr. Jack arranged a short but wonderful morning bike ride around the countryside before our drive to the Yellow Mountain.

The hike around the Yellow Mountain was spectacular. The paths are paved and consist mostly of steps, but there are lots of places to rest and enjoy the view, so it is challenging but comfortable even for people with less hiking experience. We were fortunate to have good weather to enjoy the beautiful scenery and take fantastic photos, but it rained heavily during our sunrise hike on our last day. The hotel we stayed at overnight was big and very clean, and the room was equipped with a heated drying rack for our wet clothes.

Mr. Jack stayed with us until the very end of our trip. He and Mr. Hu dropped us off at Huangshan train station and did not leave until we passed the security check. This trip was very nice and memorable because of the beauty of Huangshan but also because of Mr. Jack’s care and passion as a guide.

I strongly recommend this tour. Thank you!

This tour was excellent. From the time I arrived on the train to the time I departed, I was in the hands of a pro, my tour guide Christina. Our first stop was Hongcun Village, a picturesque ancient town with a lot of local culture to learn about and experience. Christina helped me sample some of the local food, communicating to the locals about my food allergy. In the evening, I stayed near Tunxi Old Street which was a pleasant place to walk, shop, and have dinner. Days two and three were spent on Yellow Mountain. We had terrible weather! Fog covered the mountain the whole time. Bad luck. If I was rating the mountain it would get less stars ;). My guide kept things pleasant and cheerful, and took pictures for me. She was knowledgeable about the mountain and local culture so at least listening to her was interesting. When I decided to leave the mountain a little early, she was very accommodating and helpful with the trains. If you try it, good luck with the weather, and maybe plan a little flexibility in your schedule and check the weather reports!

Joe was our tour guide to our four days and three nights trip to HuangShan and Hongcun through Travel China Guide. He is very knowledgeable, informative, pleasant and helpful. His command of English is excellent !!

He helped us to plan this front mountain hike up and come down from the back mountain. We took the cable car from Mercy Light Temple to Jade Screen and hike from there to Beihai Hotel. It was a difficult hike but it was well worth the effort. Because Joe knows the mountain like his back yard. We experienced the mountain, the trees, the rocks, the culture, and the history through his eyes.

The weather on the mountain changed constantly. He was be able to re-arrange the hikes accordingly so we can see the best of the different peaks. The hotel, transportation and the meals are all well planned. Two nights stay was perfect for us so we can have time to explore and enjoy the mountain.

Joe introduced us to the Hongcun after the mountain visit. It was such a nice visit to this treasure. He get to know the tradition, the culture and the people.

Joe does not just have wealth of knowledge about HuangShan and Hongcun but he also has infinite patient when we wondered off or tired! We enjoyed his guiding. We also appreciated Joe's support and understanding. It has become the best and unforgettable part to our whole China trip!

Late Oct, 2006 Initial visit, up East (Yungu ) cableway to top of Huangshan for 3 days ,2 nights at Beihai Hotel. Hiked up & down steep mountainous terrain on East scenic side, Bright Summit, beautiful sunset, unique rock formations & sea of clouds that changes constantly. In Sept 2018, visited central-north areas - narrow cliff walks , along narrow mountain paths down into valley in West Sea Canyon; Save energy & took cableway up ( near Baiyun Hotel , 2 nights). Hiked Turtle Peak & some more of West scenic area. Yuping cableway down to Hot springs. Planning to revisit Oct / Nov 2020 to West Sea Canyon, Lotus Peak, Greeting Pine & nearby and Huangshan Hot Springs near bottom of Yuping cableway. Avoid visiting busy Chinese National holidays early Oct.

We did a one day Hiking tour to the Yellow Mountains and a one day cultural walk to Hongcun Ancient Village with Guide Thomas. Thomas also picked us up and to took us back to the train station.

The hiking day was just perfect and every thing went really smoothly as there were almost no queues this weekday. We did a very good size tour, 5 hours, getting up at the east of the mountain and down at the west, perfect for us.

Hongcun was very interesting and Thoms shared many stories and took us to a local farmers restaurant. Food was delicious. You can ask for less oil on the traditional egg dish and it will be just perfect.

Thomas has been timely, friendly and knowledgeable thru the whole trip. He loves to share stories and will do so. more than happily. We are happy to recommend his service.
