- Lovin' it on Phuket1,258 contributionsThis is a lovely beach to visit if it isn't crowded. I found it to be less of a headache than Copacabana and less busy than Ipanema. It was very crowded for a Monday at the first two waterfalls we didn’t even take photos there instead we continued down a difficult path with chains and ropes to the third waterfall which was beautiful and though there were several people around it was still possible to get in the waterfall alone. My brother and I were the only gringos here. The trail continues past the third waterfall to a bunch of small waterfalls just beautiful. These are the things that make me
Love life. I got a ton of bug bites I don’t think they were mosquitoes. I forgot to reapply bug spray after getting out of the waterfall. This place is definitely worth a quick pop in if you are passing or in the area. The inside of the building is stunning (from the beautiful ceilings to the stunning floor and, of course all the books) and it reminded me of something you might see in a Harry Potter film. - JakeMinneapolis, MN125 contributionsI had a perception in my mind of the history of Brazil being rather ruthless. This exhibit did not make me feel that way. It made me feel like it was definitely the perspective of the Portuguese. I wanted to learn more about the truth and brutality of the African slave trade and the wars the with indigenous people. This exhibit seemed to focus more on the Portuguese. I don't think that is a bad thing but just wanted a more holistic approach to their history. I am a history nerd and I studied Brazilian history online almost every night while in Rio. - julie260Paignton, UK132 contributionsYou book this on their website. Tours are 9:30 and 13:30. We had an English speaking guide and shared him with some Dutch people. We took an Uber there and found our own way back using the local bus which connected to the BRT Metro bus. Surprisingly straightforward. Gardens and the house are spectacular and the tour was very well organised.Took about 1:5 hours. Cheap as well 10 reals entry, or half price if over 60! But be close to the group who is playing because of the crowds and noise you almost can’t not listen it perfectly. We went there around 11 pm and it was still going on. - PrestonGuildUnited Kingdom54,328 contributionsWe took a short walk as we visited the Sugar Loaf. The trail takes you to a scenic green part up to the first part of the sugar loaf mountain. You get to see some wildlife.
However the trail soon gets strenuous and you need to be fit and have suitable clothing.

It must have been beautiful in its heyday. Would love to visit when there is something on. The views from the top of the house are spectacular with a different twist on Rio than some of the other sights.
Free to enter and ramble around.
