Very nice beach in Ipanema, less people, great waves, close to Arpoador Hotel where you can have a drink in their stunning view terrace.

As my wife and I strolled through Ipanema, we stumbled upon the Sunday Hippie Fair. It was by happenstance because we didn’t plan that. It was a blessing because my wife loved it. She was interested in purses, blankets, and rugs that vendors were selling. She found a vendor selling blankets and she bought a few of them. She liked them a lot. She also bought a beach bag that said Copacabana on it. We even came back to buy two more blankets because she wanted to give them out as souvenirs. The vendors we worked with only spoke Portugese so there was a bit of a language gap but we paid in cash and it worked out.

Tom Jobim is regarded as the father of bossa nova. He wrote the music for The Girl from Ipanema at a restaurant in Ipanema.

This is just one of many statues you will find on the beaches of Rio usually associated with musicians or writers. This one is located where Arpoador beach begins and Ipanema beach ends.

A good spot to take photos and learn something about the subject.

A simple church gives its name to the square right in its front: Our Lady of Peace - the very very heart of Ipanema. This church had its construction started in 1918, opening its doors in 1921. Recently it was totally renovated, preserving its ecletic neo romantic original style, with beautiful German stained glass windows and bells. The main image was a gift of France to Rio. While strolling along Ipanema, a quick stop, a moment of reflection, a prayer ... at a real symbol of devotion to Virgin Mary and to Peace, so much needed in nowadays. Enjoy!

This is a small and nice park between Copacabana and Ipanema. During the day it seems safe, but during the evening you better avoid it.

We visited the Sauer store at Sugarloaf and then the museum and store downtown in Rio. After seeing some other stores we found this to be the best. Very good service and explanations of the stones and style of jewels. Josi was wonderful in serving us. She has worked here for 30 years ! So good we bought a beautiful necklace and watch !

When we walked up to the building from the street, we were looking for an elevator. Unfortunately, we went to the right and ended up at what looked like the DMV!

The elevator you want is towards the left. Be aware of your surroundings -- there are people coming and going the whole time you are there.

We were walking by the beach when we saw this Galeria that caught out attention, the current exposition is simple but so interesting, plus you can interact with it! Worth the visit, took some great pictures in that black & white environment.

This art gallery showing work of a small selection of modern Brazilian is located in a yellow colonial style building with displays on 2 floors. The gallery is scheduled to move in 2018 to a new modern building (see photo) further down Rua Anibal de Mendonca closer to Ipanema Beach (Beach Posto 10). This gallery is not very large at all with only a few dozen pieces of art on display. It is worth a quick visit though for anyone with an interest in art. My favourite painting was one done in 1957 by artist Candido Portinari called "Favela"... Very Rio de Janeiro.
