    Cute part of Rio
    We love the Santa Teresa part of Rio de Janeiro, it's galleries and the good bars and the delicious food. Great for an afternoon in the galleries and the afternoon turning into night with bars and dancing.

    Review of: Urca
    Amazing Area
    This is one of my favorite populated areas in Rio. The mountain is a nice view and good value for the cable car ride up to the top and then over to Sugarloaf. The beach is very clean and small. There is a military base at the bottom of Mount Urca so it is about as safe as you can get. The hike up the mountain is pretty good and the shops and restaurants in the area are very friendly.

    Review of: Rocinha
    Very nice tour
    I took a tour with a friend in the Favela, it was nice and very interesting. I do recommend the longer tour, because it felt like it went by very fast. Our guide had a lot of knowledge about the place and you could tell he was genuinely interested and liked his job. But he did portrayed the Favela like a safe place, and that I would be no reasons at all to be afraid and that you could easily go there on your own.
    I am not sure I believe that, I do not think is as bad as everyone says maybe, but maybe it is not a good idea to paint it as a safe place. There is a lot of guns and drugs in the area, and you should be careful. Of course nothing is gonna happen on a guided tour, I think it is different to go by yourself.
    But I do stronly recommend the tour, it has amazing views and it is a part of brazil.
    I got my ride on get your guide website and I choosed the 4 hour tour.

    Review of: Leme
    Leme
    Leme is an extension of Copocanaba really. We spent more time here when we moved to the Hilton hotel.

    We even did a short walking tour of the area so we found a few nice places to eat and a little bit about the history of the place. A good area to stroll.

    Its location being after Copacabana beach means the beach is less busy outside of the weekends.

    Hotels such as the Copacabana Palace means it has a more upmarket feel.

    However do note that near the Hilton was an entrance to a favela neighbourhood but a police car was on guard to ensure no tourist goes in by mistake.

    Review of: Cinelandia
    European looking square
    Large square with lots of monumental buildings surrounding it with the most famous being municipal theatre on the northern side. Some events and temporary exhibitors are taking place in the middle from time to time. There are few nice cafes with outdoor seats, where one can enjoy the views while having a coffee or cold beer.

    Review of: Rio de Janeiro Historic City Center
    Rio de Janeiro Historic City Center
    The best way to tackle the historical city centre is to take a walking tour.

    You will learn more about Rio and how the city developed. The historical centre also has fascinating buildings, museums, churches, statutes.

    It is also useful to have a guide as sadly the extensive poverty is visible in the city centre as well as elsewhere in Rio.

    some good restaurants, interesting place to visit
    I was only there briefly, but enjoyed my visit. Good selection of restaurants. Watch your valuables - the streets didn't feel particularly safe.

    Review of: Cosme Velho
    Just Beautiful
    While not a great deal at at Cosme Velho it does provide some beautiful old homes as well as the railway station to get to Corcovado.

    Review of: Alto da Boa Vista
    In the heart of the urban forest
    The neighborhood is on the top of the cliffs of Tijuca, among the Tijuca firest, parks and old houses reminiscent of past times in the city, when this area was a week end or holidays escape from the heat down the mountains. A nice walk at the square of Cascatinha and through the road leading to atijuca or Barra is breatholding. Very nice.
