    Review of: The Metropolitan Cathedral of Saint Sebastian
    Unusual!
    Stopped here for a quick visit with my partner and our 12 year old. From the outside it is the strangest looking cathedral I have ever seen (and certainly not the most beautiful) as it was based on the Mayan pyramids, but, step inside and the beautiful stain glass provides vivid colours and a total contrast to the external building. We spent about 30 minutes in here – don’t think any longer would really be required, but well worth a quick stop if passing.

    Review of: Sao Francisco da Penitencia Church
    What a sensational tour!!!
    In addition to the beautiful church, it contains many objects and paintings from the last century.
    For those who like it is the history they are visiting the city can not fail to witness this wonder.

    Review of: Basilica of Penha
    Free and Stunningly Beautiful Views
    This is a fantastic gem in Rio. The cathedral is on the pinnacle of a tiny mountain top. You can see its prominent location from the freeway as you head south from the airport.

    There are 365 steps to the top. Luckily, the church has put in a free vernicular to save you the trouble of walking up. The views are spectacular from the top and the tiny cathedral is incredibly charming. I loved how we could see the water and but also sort of experience the sights and sounds of the favelas that are fairly close by.

    Lovely, historial church, you shouldn't miss. It really worths a visit if you like history and architecture.

    Review of: Igreja Nossa Senhora de Copacabana e Santa Rosa de Lima
    Catholic church in Copacabana.
    Unless you are looking for a church, you won't notice this wonderful parish. Hidden gem in the midst of the lively Copacabana neighborhood. The church has 2 wonderful side chapels, one has adoration. Beautiful and peaceful place to stop by and pray for a bit and attend mass. They have daily mass and offer Sunday mass in English at 11:30am.

    Beautiful
    Walking tour guide brought us by this church. Another of the 200+ churches in Rio de Janeiro. Many have mass every day.

    Review of: Basílica Imaculada Conceição
    Say a Prayer for Basilica Imaculada Conceicao! Immaculate Conception Day today!
    Live in Botafogo and Love my Neighborhood but had never entered Basilica Imaculada Conceicao!! Usually went to Masses at Copacabana but decided to go to this Gothic Church, that had No idea it was such a different Gothic style one, bright and colourfull inside. Thanks God arrived there earlier and could appreciate that Wonderfull piece of Religious Art ! & The Masses are also very Good and Inspiring!

    Review of: Paróquia Nossa Senhora da Paz
    Worshipping Virgin Mary and Peace at the heart of Ipanema!
    A simple church gives its name to the square right in its front: Our Lady of Peace - the very very heart of Ipanema. This church had its construction started in 1918, opening its doors in 1921. Recently it was totally renovated, preserving its ecletic neo romantic original style, with beautiful German stained glass windows and bells. The main image was a gift of France to Rio. While strolling along Ipanema, a quick stop, a moment of reflection, a prayer ... at a real symbol of devotion to Virgin Mary and to Peace, so much needed in nowadays. Enjoy!

    Review of: Igreja Nossa Senhora da Lapa dos Mercadores
    Quaint church
    Very small, and many families have smaller weddings here. Built after the merchant trade was well established and the traders could afford it.

    Review of: Igreja de Sao Judas Tadeu
    Spiritual sanctuary
    We stopped here after we toured the Corcovado and the statue of the Christ. The building is on top of steep stairs in a busy street. Inside it is simple and inspiring. There is a make wish, tie a ribbon alcove that is very similar to the ancient pagan rituals in Cappadoccia in central Anatolia.
