We had amazing experience in Saint Petersburg in Winter 2022.
That was cold winter without any big group or any sort of mass tourism there. we could walk easily in the museum. Visit our favorite halls and watch painting for long time without annoying from other people.
Believe or not, we stayed in front of da Vinci painting for some minutes and we were the only people in the hall.
All in all I highly recommend to visit Hermitage museum in winter time. You can experience same as walking in the private gallery, not one of the biggest and the most popular museum in the world

This beautiful church, which aesthetically reminds of St Basil, was built in order to remember the killing of Tsar Alexander II; its name comes from this. Nowadays it’s the most iconic and touristic church in Saint Petersburg, as you can assume from the many souvenir stalls outside of it.

Nicknamed “the Russian Versailles”, the main peculiarity of this magnificent royal palace (a summer residence) are the beautiful fountains, which are open from Spring up to the first half of October. You can even rent an electric car to tour the gardens; be careful to the guys dressed up as noblemen, they ask you for a photo in order to get money.

Probably Catherine Palace is my favourite among Russian royal residences. It remembers me about the animated movie “Anastasia” which is partly set there. From the movie, I can recognize the gate as well as that amazing golden ball salon. You can understand how the Tsars lived and their lavish lifestyle.

Tsarsko Selo (Tsar Village) is a Royal complex Peter the Great built for his wife Catherine I, later enlarged and lavishly decorated by Catherine II (the Great).
It consists of a breathtaking Palace, terrific gardens with lakes, Hermitage pavilion, a Mosque, monuments across the park,...etc.
It's located further south of St. Pet airport and you can reach it by taxi (make sure you have the Yandex app installed) which will take around 45-60 min depending on the traffic, or via the train from St, Pet.
The area is huge and beautiful to explore, so count on at least half a day for visit.

The Naval Cathedral of St. Nicholas the Wonderworker, built in the neo-Byzantine style, is huge and visible from afar.
This is the tallest building in the city. The total height of the Naval Cathedral is 70.5 meters. However, it does not look massive due to the fact that it is built of white brick.
Inside, the cathedral is spacious and bright thanks to the many windows on the drum of the central dome.
Along the perimeter are black marble plaques with the names of the dead sailors and ships.
We took a tour under the dome of the cathedral. Climbing to a height of 52 meters rewards you with a stunning view of the frescoes of the dome and a circular view of Kronstadt. We were told the history of the cathedral from its construction to the present day. The acoustics here are amazing - if two people stand opposite each other through the dome, clinging to the walls, you can clearly hear a person from the opposite side, although the distance here is 26 meters.
From here you can clearly see the mosaics and stained-glass windows of the temple, as well as the place where an unexploded German bomb fell during the war.
    Definitely worth a trip!

While strolling around this magnificent palace, admiring the jewelry masterpieces by Fabergé, you can feel like a member of the Russian imperial family. The most known pieces of art hosted there are obviously the Fabergé Eggs, lavish Easter Eggs the Tsar used to give to his mother and his wife; every year the eggs were different, inspired to the events of the period.

Oranienbaum is one of the palaces located in the surroundings of St. Petersburg. In fact, it is located in Lomonosov. Pitifully, we arrived there on Tuesday in November, and this day the palace was closed. We only could walk in the gardens, which were very beautiful and also we can see very nice views of the palace. We should return in summer.

Very enchanting look at the different regions of Russia. Great detail went into the buildings, bridges, etc. The facility is 800 m2 of beauty. The display even changes the lighting to simulate day and night. The transition is breath taking. It takes a small army of technicians to make the whole thing work. Working trains, moving cars on the highways, and many other moving displays make this a very relaxing way to spend a couple hours. Good for adults and kids will love it too.

The Hermitage pavilion sits opposite the main Catherine palace over beautifully landscaped gardens and close to the lake. It's the biggest edifice in the complex after the Palace itself.
It's built in the same Baroque/Rococo style with the same colors of blue, white and gold dominating, as the main palace.
During our visit it was closed, so I cannot comment the interiors.

If strolling in the fascinating gardens is your thing, then The Park And Gardens of Peterhof is the best place to go! Incredible landscape and fabulous buildings all over the park can blow your mind with their magnificence and elegance. And if you ask me, fountains were one of the highlights of this exciting visit. I can't recommend it enough!
