- Traveler3 contributionsTo quote our 8 yer old “OMG that was amazing!” — a few hours earlier she had been terrified by the idea of riding horses. Our whole family of four (girls 8 and 10) had an unforgettable afternoon. The connection between Franklin and the horses was magical and put everyone at ease. We took a tranquil 2 hour loop through farmland and the girls both had a chance to try galloping. - Robin T1 contributionMy husband and I took two of the Full Adventure Tours and we loved both of them. The first was White Water rafting and it was amazing. Our guide was Freddie and with his son they kept us safe and were playful and skilled. We had a range of riders from a small child to over 70 and we all thoroughly enjoyed ourselves.
The second tour was the coffee tour with Felix. I expected to go to a large operation with all the technology and automation of a modern assembly line. That is not at all what we got. This was so much better than that! This was a testament to invention, ingenuity and determination. Felix has a world of knowledge about coffee (and lots of other things) and gave us a detailed look at how the original owner problem solved and defied convention to make this amazing product. Then, of course, we got to taste coffee the way coffee should be. It was great.

Our experience was amazing.
We coordinated the trip, via e-mail, from the states. Oscar was very friendly and quick in getting back to us. We asked about hiking up the Volcan Baru to see the sunrise. Oscar was very polite and explained we would leave at 11pm, the night before, and hike for six hours. He then went on to explain another option of taking a Jeep ride up the mountain and leaving at 4am. That turned out to be a much wiser choice.
Oscar and the driver were right on time. The vehicle was in good shape and Oscar explained that it was a very rough, four-wheel drive rode. He was right.
Throughout the trip, Oscar emphasized safety, and made sure we were well strapped into the Jeep. At the top, he had hot coffee and sandwiches for us. A welcome snack at 0 degrees Celsius, on Panama's highest point, in September.
There were some folks who had hiked up and Oscar was happy to point out for them where the best viewing was. He also made sure people were safe and understood where the trail was.
If I could give Oscar credit for the weather, I would. It was near perfect; especially when one considers we were in the rainy season. The sunrise was awesome and, as high up as we were, we were able to see the Caribbean, near Bocas del Toro, in the East, and the Pacific, in the west. It was an amazing experience.
The real impressive thing, with Oscar, was his concern for how we left the area and assuring there was no trash left; by our group or the other people. Also, his concern for others who had hiked up. There was one solo hiker that we met on the way down, who was still working toward the summit. Oscar got his information and relayed it to the park ranger at the entrance. Watching all of this, I knew we were in good hands.
We definitely would recommend Oscar and his company, Exploration Ya. We started out with a cloud first hike in the morning followed by a tour of 2 different coffee farms in the afternoon. When Patricio was younger, he actually worked on one of the coffee farms so he was a wealth of knowledge. He showed us the whole process of how coffee is made from start to finish, which was so awesome seeing the ingenuity of the coffee maker behind the scenes. We also were able to sample 3-4 different types of coffee including the famous geisha that is specific to this region of Boquete. All very delicious. My husband and I really clicked with him- we felt like great friends by the end of the day! I highly recommend hitting up Patricio for a private tour that he will suit to your needs! Well worth it:).
