What travellers are saying
- Daniel ABeijing, China33,057 contributionsWe were in Inner Mongolia during National Week ad figured there wouldn’t be huge crowds in Hohhot. We sought a less populated city, but this is China, and there were huge crowds especially in the museum. It’s still a must-do even with crowds, just be prepared. There are not many English descriptions available, but why should there be in China, right? However, they offered translation services, but the lady at the help desk was rude and couldn’t help me get the English app for the museum. Maybe she didn’t speak English? Wrong! She didn’t care to answer my Chinese wife either, lol! That aside, the dinosaur and animal exhibits are fascinating for adults and enthralling for children. Take plenty of time there and soak it in because your kids will hate the second-floor exhibits, lol. Bring plenty of snacks for a more enjoyable experience with your kids.Written 5 October 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Chan RobertsCopan Ruinas, Honduras716 contributionsThe temple is just part of a larger area that includes the nearby old pedestrian street, several other buildings, a few other temples, and a huge pagoda. Be sure to explore the whole area.Written 15 January 2020This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- Daniel ABeijing, China33,057 contributionsThere are plenty of games and activities for your children here at Wanda Mall. I remember when I was young, I hated shopping with my parents. Nowadays children love accompanying their parents to malls because there are targeted attractions for them to enjoy. There are also many food places to enjoy so go hungry and with kids. There was an incident involving us parking there in our car and a selfish driver. He parked there illegally and made us wait. We called the local traffic police and they did not care. We had to wait until he was good and ready to leave. Never will I park in a parking structure there.Written 5 October 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- Chan RobertsCopan Ruinas, Honduras716 contributionsFrom what I understand from a Tripadvisor description, this temple complex was a victim of the Cultural Revolution. So, how much of the statuary is all replica I don't know. The day I went, access inside the five pagoda sturcture at the back of the complex was blocked by a locked fence; so, I couldn't see what, if anything, was inside. Anyway, the complex is very much part of the Buddhist temple culture in Hohhot. There are bigger temples in the city, but this one should be on your list because it is different from the others.Written 16 January 2020This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Sonia MBeijing, China249 contributionsThis is the same as the other "Inner Mongolia Museum"
As a museum lover, this one was fantastic for several reasons--free entry (somewhat of a rarity in China), amazing cafeteria food (sadly or impressively, at this cafeteria, I had the best Mongolian food of my whole stay in Hohhot), super modern (the architecture and the little robots inside), and super interesting (particularly the dinosaur exhibit, the exhibits about Mongolian landscapes, and the 2nd floor exhibits on Mongolian culture and history). I suggest supplementing your visit with listening to Crashcourse History's podcast on Genghis Kahn. We visited the museum, then went on an organized tour (with Anda Guesthouse) to the grasslands and desert, and going to the museum first was definitely a good idea because it gave us good preparation and knowledge for the tour. In sum, amateur paleontologists and Mongolian history aficionados, welcome! Don't forget to try the food, seriously.Written 10 July 2014This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. From the religious monuments to the cultural experiences, the temple is littered with colourful flags and brightens up your day. But the descriptors are difficult to understand for non-Tibetans, despite a dual English Chinese language descriptors. It is next to the Dazhao temple and surrounded by tourist shops around the area. Overall, it is worth visit for tourists who know little about Tibetan or Buddhist culture. You can understand a bit more after visiting.Written 28 March 2020This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- Daniel ABeijing, China33,057 contributionsWe visited this square during the day and at night and the nighttime activities, people watching, lights and ambiance are far more memorable during the night. There are souvenir shops galore and some snacks, but mostly they offer just sausages and not very good ones at that.Written 5 October 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - romer1342Winchester, UK67 contributionsThe government of Inner Mongolia have built one of the finest racecourse in the world in their Capital, Hohhot "The Blue City". It looks like a Mongolian Space ship 275 metres long and 36 high and can hold 700 people. It has 12 VIP lounges, 2 fitness centres, recreation hall, exhibition hall etc. On the top of the building are 4 Mongolian yurts gaily painted with white clouds. The oval course is 750 metres long and can accommodate the Mongolian love for horses and racing. Only problem is no bets as illegal in China. You must visit. Another personal favourite in Hohhot is the dinosaur museum. Also lots of great hotels and restaurants. - Ltp_BKKBangkok, Thailand471 contributionsAt the Zhaojun tomb, there are 3 museums, Zhaojun museum, China's political marriage museum and Xiongnu history museum, but when I was there, only china's political marriage museum was opened. Other museums were closed. You can take bus no.209 from the city at 5 RMB. and get off at Zhaojun Museum stop. - T SJupiter, FL1,061 contributionsWe tried several types and each was very good. Lots of varieties. Not really a street but an area with a few shops. Looking forward to returning tomorrow for breakfast.Written 22 August 2018This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Ltp_BKKBangkok, Thailand471 contributionsFree of charge, however you need to show your passport for a free ticket. After visiting the political marriage museum at Zhaojun Tomb, seeing the real house of princess of Qing dynasty who was sent to Mongol to be married with the Mongol prince is just like going to field trip after read history book.Written 10 June 2019This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC.
