Words cannot express how amazing this place this. It definitely has to be experienced for yourself. Sunrise is beautiful, aim for 5.50-6am, Sunrise in March was 6.20am - not as bad as they make out and wasn't over crowded. Make the most and walk around the back and to the top for some meditation time.

The Bayon is at the centre of the great city of Angkor Thom. The heads sculpted into the towers are stunning. The extensive bas reliefs depicting scenes of ordinary life, agriculture, warfare, religion and more are if anything even more impressive.

Ta Promh was the first stop on our tour of the temples and on our first day in Cambodia. Fortunately our knowledgeable guide was able to explain much of the history of the temple and its religious significance. The whole site is magnificent. The carvisng are particularly intricate and beautiful.

A busy area consisting of a few streets. Lots of bright lights & loud music.
Not as busy as I’d thought it would be, but then many Cambodians told us that since Covid tourism is not what it was.
Felt quite safe there,as there were plenty of tourist police.
Went in a couple of bars. Very cheap alcohol, cocktails tasted cheap too !!!

This was perhaps our favourite temple of the many we saw in our stay in Siem Reap. It is older (10th century) and smaller than some of the others such as Angkor Thom and Angkor Wat and the scale felt more human. The detailed carvings are stunning.

Angkor Thom was a huge city built in the 12th and 13th centuries and is thought to have been home to over a million people. The wooden buildings have disappeared over the centuries, leavin the magnificent remains of temples, palaces and walls for 21st centry vistors to admire. The scale is awe-inspiring but so is the intricate detail of the carving. An unforgettable visit.

The museum is very sobering to visit. It brings home the horror and stupidity of war. Even today people are being maimed decades on since there are still 2.5 mines for every person in Cambodia.

This is a little arty colony with many vendors, mostly outdoors. It's next to Shinta Mani Angkor hotel. The only shop that's with a/c is this silk place by the entrance, to the right. The young couple (not sure they're a husband and wife team) are polite and personable. Their scarves are beautiful. I returned two more times, to buy a few more - even I already have too many scarves at home.

Cambodia has more than one thousand years of silk making history. Their Ikat weaving, which is a process that making a pattern from wrapping part of yarn before dying, and woven into fabric. The golden silk is unique to Cambodia, dating back to the Khmer Empire. The golden time for Cambodian silk was during 9th to 15th centuries.

Interesting temple which was dedicated to the kings father. It took 5 years to build and has a mixture of rooms/buildings including a library and a room where the kings sacred sword was housed. There’s a dancing room featuring many carvings of the apsara dancing ladies.

I liked the mixture of complete walls/rooms and carvings and other areas that had obviously collapsed over time. It’s a ‘flat’ temple which means you get great ‘lines of sight’ through the many small rooms and doorways giving a fabulous perspective to the north, south, west and east.

The surrounding temple walls have large carvings of Garuda on them and the whole temple is surrounded by a moat.
