What an amazing tour. You can Be in and out in less than two hours. I highly recommend the accompanying audio tour that is downloaded directly onto your cell phone bring ear pods. The tour itself is self-guided, And the individual audio tour information packets don't necessarily have to be done in any particular order as you can see the entire facility from any vantage point. High points included the fact that most of the columns were made from recycled material from other buildings that were torn down or collapsed in order to save on resources and money, so recycling was around even 1500 years ago. We went on Friday January 17th just after lunchtime and there may have been less than 20 people in line. That may have been an anomaly because Hajia Sofia, Just across the street, had hundreds of people in line. Sultanamet (The Blue Masque) & Hajia Sofia Face each other across a 100 meter square green space. the Grand Bazaar is just less than 200 meters away (to the west), Toplapi Palace And Museum (is a definite must see) is 200 meters to the east of the blue mosque. If you are trying to see all of the attractions mentioned in this paragraph it will take you more than one day to do it justice. My advice is to arrive early in the morning and leave when the crowds begin to become too much to return the next day at the same time. The two Mosques (Hajia Sofia / Sultanahmet) in the complex have erratic opening hours for the general public depending on what is going on. When visiting the Mosques, Women must have their head and shoulders covered by a shawl or scarf no tank tops of any kind are allowed men or women. In the summer they do allow shorts for both sexes but anything with leg sleeves higher than knee length is frowned upon. You also must remove your shoes to enter each mosque, they have places to store the shoes or you can bring a bag to carry your shoes on your shoulder.

Absolutely amazing the history behind that place is fascinating. Only Mosque I have ever seen that has mosaics of Jesus and the Virgin Mary on the walls. Its wild to think you are standing in a building that is about 1500 years old.

This is a lovely and HUGE mosque. It is free to enter, you will walk past many informational posters about Islam. This is not heavy handed. You ladies will need a head scarf to go inside. They also close a few times a day during prayer times--which are posted outside so you know when you can and can't go in.
The lines seem like it will take forever to get in, but the line went very quickly and by the time we got done taking pictures of the outside it was time to go in.
As far as size, it's equally as big as the Hagia Sofia (but much younger). The decorations, tile and stained glass are beautiful

Although the entrance ticket is a little high (40$/person), the visit was worth it. We concluded the visit with the included Ephesus Experience museum, which offers an included 3D + audio immersive presentation in three rooms.
Love it. The Celcus Library is a pure gem to look at.

This district is easily walkable to from a cruise ship. You can spend all day doing all the main attractions in this location. Easily connected to the train station as well. Lots to see and do! Well worth it.

This is a vast sized mosque that stands in huge landscaped grounds. It has 4 steeples to each corner with various sized grey domes to it's centre. These domes also sit on top of it's arched walls that line the perimeter of it's inner courtyard. Inside it has a pristine red carpet and lovely stained glass windows. There's also a beautifully decorated ceiling. Outside you can also find wonderful views of the Bosphorus Sea.

I only visited the inner grounds of the palace due to it's high entrance fee of £25. You can view the beautiful clock tower immediately to your right upon entrance which is designed into 4 similar styled tiers with windows in each of them and a clock face to the top on all of sides. You can then see a short distance away the main entrance and what a spectacular sight it is. It's designed as a large gateway with an arch to it's centre and 3 pillars to each side. The majestic carvings and workmanship is truly fabulous as is the ceiling of the arch itself. In the distance - after you have entered the paying section - you can see another more simplistic gateway. Not to be missed even though it's just the inner grounds.

The Old Town is such a charming place with its narrow streets, ancient walls, and beautiful views of the marina. We arranged our airport transfer through arvistransfer.com, and the experience was smooth and stress-free. Strolling around the Old Town was truly memorable, with plenty of cozy spots to stop and take in the history.

It’s a great historic place but it’s crowded as hell. Way to crowded. I advice one to visit during the day rather than night

Changing of the guard is every hour and worth seeing. The whole place is spotless and comes with a number of rules - no eating, drinking or smoking. Worth spending 90mins or so here.

I had a great time visiting Istiklal Caddesi in Istanbul with my friends. The lively atmosphere, rich history, and diverse shops made it an unforgettable experience. We enjoyed exploring the bustling streets, savoring delicious street food, and immersing ourselves in the cultural vibe. The blend of traditional and modern elements created a unique charm that kept us engaged throughout the day. The tram ride was a highlight, adding a nostalgic touch to our trip. Istiklal Caddesi truly captures the essence of Istanbul, making it a must-visit for anyone exploring the city.

The earliest "monasteries," some of which existed before Constantinople and the spread of Christianity. The idea that early Christians lived here was very astounding. You may access buildings that are in very good condition, such as a dining room and a few little chapels. One of Cappadocia's must-sees, without a doubt. Sneakers will probably work just fine, but if you want to enter some of these buildings, make sure you wear comfortable shoes.

Göreme was an epicenter of early Christianity, it also featuring painted cave churches. The rupestrian churches date from the 10-11th. century and include Tokalı Kilise and El Nazar Kilise , St. Barbara , Saklı Kilise , Karanlık Kilise . .. . The otherworldly fairy chimneys are impressive. The park is a unique spot, not to be missed. Prepare for at least 2 hours of walk with a lot of matchless sights (it became a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1985). I found also the "Dark Church" remarkable because of the way in which it preserved the beauty of the celebrated frescoes. Nevertheless, if you are not curios/passionate about the subject, it is better not to pay the additional ticket.
Prom a practical perspective, the landmark is easily to be found and has a parking There were several very commercial stores while I expected to find something authentic craft objects. A little crowded in the morning with longer waiting lines for the ticket purchase. If you feel the need for a guide, you can find an authorized one inside. We did not go with this opting (as we have done some reading prior to the visit) but there were several groups which seemed pleased with the service. There is a cafe and a museum shop inside so you can have a coffee and a drink.

Ortaköy Mosque (Büyük Mecidiye Camii) and its surrounding square, Ortaköy Meydanı, are one of Istanbul's most iconic and picturesque spots. Located along the Bosphorus in the Ortaköy neighborhood, this area is famous for its stunning views, lively atmosphere, and rich cultural history.

The Ortaköy Mosque, built in the 18th century during the reign of Sultan Abdulmecid, is an impressive example of Baroque architecture with Ottoman influences. Its location, right by the water's edge, allows for spectacular views of the Bosphorus Bridge, making it one of the most photographed spots in Istanbul. The mosque’s intricate design, with its large dome and elegant minarets, creates a beautiful contrast with the modern and traditional elements of the neighborhood.

Ortaköy Meydanı, the square in front of the mosque, is always bustling with life. The area is filled with cafes, restaurants, shops, and street vendors selling popular Turkish snacks, such as "kumpir" (stuffed baked potatoes) and "waffles." The vibrant atmosphere, combined with the stunning backdrop of the Bosphorus Bridge, makes this a favorite destination for both locals and tourists.

The square also hosts cultural events, concerts, and festivals throughout the year, adding to its lively energy. Visitors can enjoy a walk along the waterfront, take in the beautiful views, or simply relax in one of the many cafes that line the square.

Ortaköy and its mosque are perfect examples of how Istanbul blends the old and the new, offering a unique mix of history, culture, and modern-day charm.
