Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

What travellers are saying
- Reina D2 contributionsA really scenic beach that is relaxing to walking on. The weather was nice as well. However just a bit of a touristy atmosphere with many people.Written 27 November 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - daloninakValdez, AK50 contributionsThis is our 2nd visit to Lanikai and we enjoy walking the beach in the mornings and evenings. Lots of sand for people to just sit, relax and read or run around and play in the water. We enjoy taking photos of the scenery. The views from the beach provide plenty to enjoy. You can see people kayaking or wind surfing as well as view the Mokes toward the south and east. Holidays are busier as everyone heads to the water.Written 28 November 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - BrakiWorldTravelerBelgrade, Serbia20,006 contributionsKailua Beach is on Oahu's eastern side. It's in fact the same beach as Lanikai, divided only by a small river.
Imo, it's one of the most beautiful on the island with amazing sea, palms and sand.
Plenty of parking in front (free) makes it much more accessible than Lanikai.Written 10 June 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Definitely for people who like to snorkel and I imagine would be good for young children to swim as most of the beach is very shallow. Must bring water shoes! Access to this beach could be tricky without it, there’s lots of sharp rocks! Make sure you’ve got sun protection as well! There’s a bathroom and an outdoor shower to rinse yourself and snorkel gear. Beautiful sunsets. Close to lots of food options including a grocery store if you’ve got a family and you’re on a budget grab some food from the deli instead of visiting the food trucks. There’s places that are scuba accessible outside the cove. I also recommend swimming outside the cove if you wanna see more marine life and are a confident swimmer. Love this place!Written 6 September 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- H M5 contributionsThis beach is utterly stunning and 5 stars just for that! I'm writing this review for anyone who decides to make a day trip from Honolulu (like we did). We saw 0 turtles and there had been none all day and this info came from locals:
+ Turtles don't like rough water, so if it's windy they will go somewhere else
+You are likely to see Turtles on any north shore beach so don't clog the road to this one
+There is limited parking so get dropped off / get the bus if you can. If coming from/ to Honolulu you may have to wait a while for an Uber
+The little town Haleiwa is very close and very cute as a back up option
It was worth it for the beautiful drive across the island and for a beautiful beach but be prepared, get there sensibly and have a turtle back up plan.Written 17 November 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - s0uthernc0upleLadson, SC78 contributionsThe entire island of Oahu is absolutely gorgeous! Went to many famous beaches - Waikiki, all the North Shore beaches, East side, Pipeline, etc…
But I really loved the off-the-tourist trap areas where the locals have their wares. Think small beach town vibe, and lots of local color from artists to food trucks, the best time to be had was in the less traveled areas. Go. Do. Enjoy. We had a couple drinks while we were watching the people and watching the beach. The bar had live Hawaiian music. Good experience.Written 5 November 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- Mrs KAustin, TX13 contributionsBeautiful place to visit. The water is so clear and the park is clean.
You do see some homeless here and there but they don’t bother you.Written 25 September 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. We couldn’t have had a better choice! We had a very small private beach wedding, but nevertheless it was beautiful.Written 3 September 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Mo HLos Angeles, CA74 contributionsWe went just after the public side opened at noon on Friday. There is a restroom at the first parking area near the beach. We traveled further down the roadway until we reached the gate for the base. There is a large parking area near the guard entrance with easy access to the beach. We practically had the beach to ourselves. The waves are small and perfect for younger kids. On the way out, we stopped at the stand selling shaved ice. My granddaughter said it was the best she ever had.Written 17 August 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - William K1 contributionMy wife and I went to SandyBeach early to make sure we could park. Lifeguards we’re not on duty that early. Grabbed my boogie board and headed in. As I was going in a guy was coming out and said one word, “Don’t”. Went in and caught a really nice wave for about 10 ft and got slammed pretty hard. Went again, bigger wave……slammed to the bottom harder. Went a third time, bigger wave slammed again! By this time my 68 year old self had enough. Walking out I saw my wife talking to the lifeguard who was putting out warning signs. I’ve body boarded quite a bit but the waves were bigger, faster and broke in shallow water. Be careful and understand what you’re getting into.Written 14 September 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Llewellyn53Melbourne, Australia4,337 contributionsA good sized park located between Waikiki Beach and Diamond Head. There are frequently displays, free Hawaiian Band Concerts and today the Waikiki Art Fest, Zoo Wall Art and the Na Hula Festival all on the one day.Written 7 August 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC.
