David, our tour guide, was super amazing! He is a local and is extremely knowledgeable about the area and Hawaii as a whole. He explained a lot of phenomenons occurring in the area and also its history. He answered many things I was wondering about during my trip to the Big Island. He was also able to teach us a lot about the geographical features, animals, and give tips about hidden gems and spots. He made the trip a wonderful experience! I researched through almost all of the Mauna Kea tours, and although this one does not provide a jacket nor a telescope, we were still able to keep warm in our own clothes and get a really extensive astronomy lesson, and David's fun stories made it very fun. Thank you David for this once-in-a-lifetime tour!
QUICK TIP: if you would really like to see the stars, make sure to go on a day where the moon is in crescent phase, or in the new moon phase. We went when it was almost full moon and could barely see the stars. However, David still explained many constellations to us and pointed out lots of interesting things in the sky. In addition, the moon light was so bright we could see seas of clouds at night! So still a beautiful experience.
