Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

We attended the 7am Sunday Mass with many Hawaiian responses included in the English liturgy.
Years ago we first attended in the nearby parking lot tent while the current beautiful Church was being built.
Easy to Keep The Faith here.

An impressive building set on the side of the hill. Painted pink and white it stands out. It has an impressive bell tower and some very good stained-glass windows. Unfortunately, it wasn’t open when we got there so we had to be content to walking round the outside.

Times for Mass and other services are on their website. The church is on the main highway but slightly set back, smaller sign. Plenty of parking.

Our first time here for the 8am Sunday Mass. Wonderful choir and message boards, a friendly priest and a stunning view of the mountains.
    Peace.

I have never met a more warm and welcoming congregation. Most are expats from the continental US. After the service they insisted I stay for a huge buffet, which they tell me they prepare every Sunday.

This is a great little church. Age appropriate small groups/Bible studies/Sunday school begin at 9:00 am, a lively worship service begins at 10:15 am followed by refreshments.

The only Traditional Latin Mass on the Big Island is celebrated at Sacred Heart Church in Pahoa. Currently the Masses are on Saturdays at 8:30AM and on Sundays at 4:00 PM, Missa Cantata. After Advent 2023, the TLM Masses will be Saturdays at 8:30 AM and Sundays at 12:30 Noon. Additional schedule of Masses, Holy Day Observances and updates/changes in schedule can be found on the Facebook page - Traditional Latin Mass-Pahoa, Hawaii - Big Island.

The Mass is allowed by the Diocese to be celebrated in the Church but its schedule cannot be included in the Parish Bulletin. The Father who celebrates it has a profound love for the Traditional Latin Mass and is of the Somascan Order.

Everyone is welcome to attend and experience the Mass of the Ages. This is a spiritual and beautiful experience.

This church located on the Hamakua coast in the tiny town of Honoka’a has recently been placed on the National Register of Historic Places.
The church, built in 1926, in the Late Gothic Revival style, characterized by Gothic-Revival arched openings and a pair of towers flanking a centered projecting enclosed porch all of which is covered with a green corrugated metal roof.
The interior is a large central, high vaulted ceiling and vaulted side aisles, posts serve as nave piers and support the Gothic archways forming two outside aisles. On the back of the apse is a Gothic arched stained-glass window depicting the crucifixion. Flanking the chancel are statues of the Virgin Mary and Jesus. The choir loft is on a mezzanine over the entrance to the nave.
To the mauka side of the entrance to the Nave is a donation box, along with crucifix’ for sale for donations.
On the mauka side of the main parking lot is a small grotto built of rock that houses a statue of the Virgin Mary.

Kona United Methodist Church (KUMC) is a wonderful, friendly church with services at 8:30 AM on Sundays. The church is open on both the mountain side and the ocean side, and has a splendid view of the Pacific Ocean. It is an unusually friendly church, and visitors are made very welcome. There is plenty of parking, and the location is five minutes away from downtown Kailua-Kona. After church, there is hospitality with coffee, sweet snacks, and plenty of friendly conversation. KUMC is a prayerful church, and is a wonderful place to worship the Lord in a beautiful setting.

The original St. Benedict Roman Catholic Church was built in 1842 in Kapalelua and moved to its present location around 1880, and the home church of native Hawaiians. Today’s parishioners are part Hawaiian and Filipino. A Belgian priest named Father John Velghe was assigned to the parish in 1899 and soon realized most of the Hawaiians could not read or write. To remedy this, he used house paint on the wood and created depictions from the Bible and lives of the saints. On the grounds are a cemetery, Stations of the Cross, and a statue of the Pieta. The church is located on Painted Church Road in Kona.

After passing through Hawaii Volcanic National Park, we visited Naalehu, the southernmost town and church in the United States. Naalehu (Naalehu means "the volcanic ashes" in Hawaiian, and is home to one of several ground communication stations operated by Bigelow Aerospace that is used to communicate with its space modules in orbit. The Naalehu united Methodist church was closed when we went to visit it, but is a very pretty white building with a pointed spire, set in manicured grounds.

TIP: Check out the Shaka across the street.
