Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

I stayed in Hilo for a week and made several trip to Kona. Because of this I drove the Saddle Road numerous times. I still can't get over the how much the landscape changes here. Seeing the lava flow in parts was spectacular. There are several areas to pull off. Watch out for animals as we saw a ton of goats close to the road. The road was in good condition and easy to drive at night.

We didn't plan on doing the scenic drive but were cruising on the main road to Akaka Falls and saw a sign for the Pepeekeo Scenic Drive. Glad we took extra time to drive a bit slower and enjoy the views. We saw the blues of the ocean and lots of tropical plants, huge trees and enjoyed the drive. There is a Botanical garden off the drive but we didn't stop.

Great views, amazing wave action for viewing. It can get really hot out there and minimal amenities so bring sunscreen and water (I guess that's a given for anywhere on the island). There are porta potties, but they didn't look very "fresh". Definitely worth a visit if you're traveling through the area

The Ali'i drive is a unique way to see the Big Island - but be sure to go off the main road to really appreciate all this drive has to offer.

We made the drive to the coast so how can you not walk the 1000 feet to see the arch. It was pretty cool and we got some impressive photos.

Very peaceful, beautiful, and isolated. It's a hidden road along the coastline of big island
    Highly recommended.
However, it's a bit anxious and adventurous because can see live Lava nearby

Gorgeous views of the ocean and great historical spot. GPS led us to turn right off the main road where we promptly turned back because it turned into a private road, so we continued on the main road down to the sea where there’s a small parking lot. Despite the sun, the constant wind made up for it and made an enjoyable walk. See photos below.

We had planned to arrive early and it took longer to get there than expected. By the time we arrived, the road had cars parked end to end on both sides of the street. We had several seniors in the vehicle who could not take a long walk, so continued driving until we were there. They asked for $5 for parking. I asked if they had a place to park for disabled. They did not take our money and instructed us where to park. I was a bit worried about being parked in. I guess they collect the keys and valet that parking lot.
There was a huge variety of foods and drink, all very affordable. Yes, there was produce, local arts &crafts and live music. Overall, it was a very fun, hippy-esque experience.
Our first challenge was finding a place to sit. It seems that those who are experienced come early and find their seats for the night. We sat on a rock ledge near the 'smoking area' . It was not particularly near the entertainment, but we could still hear the music.
The two of us did take the walk to the 'new' black sand beach. It was a nice hike with a good path to the water. Not sure if there is actually a beach, but the black sand trail was nice and worth the short hike.
We felt we had experienced everything there was to offer and decided to find our fellow travelers. We returned to the parking lot and asked if they could retrieve our vehicle, No only did they remember us and our key they were able to tell us where our friends were. Earlier in the evening someone showed them a quiet place to sit. They felt the staff was extremely friendly and helpful.

The Sunday market at Cooper Centre is a great local market which has a variety of goods for sale. We enjoyed looking at the various stalls and speaking to the vendors. You could buy artwork, food, plants and brick-a-brack. There's a thrift store at the venue and you can also get massages.

Great views nearby. When you visit- get away from the main area and view the cliffs. The actual South Point spot is a bit dirty and the views are ok. But very close by are spectacular views.

If you have the opportunity, highly suggest booking a Manta Ray dive with Big Island Divers. Probably the most incredible dive I've ever experienced. Great crew.

This is another cool hike through a lava field. You look up to the caldera peak and down to the ocean. Our kids loved scrambling over the rocks and jumping on and off the trail. The Petroglyphs were surrounded by a raised wooden trail. They were big and easy to see. It's unbelievable to think that people actually lived in and around this lava field.

We received a warm greeting as we entered.

The Our Father was done hula style. On the altar were two ladies who instructed us by example on how to participate with this lovely tradition.

    Excellent Priest/Mass/community.

Parking was barely adequate, although a couple of spaces were taken up by people apparently living out of their vehicles. Monument to Captain Cook requires a pair of field glasses to get a good look.
