Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

This draws people from the community every weekend. Between the picnic area, ducks/geese, paddle boats, zoo, and children's play area the entire family would enjoy a visit. To walk around the lake takes about 1/2 an hour and is an easy stroll on mostly flat road/shoulder.

This is a beautiful memorial. It has a nice park next to it so you can have a lunch and honor our Vets

We were staying in this town unexpectedly due to a car breakdown on a trip. We made the most of our day by checking out this zoo. It was a nice surprise to find it here. A small zoo, but the animals were entertaining, especially for my 11 year old son who loves animals. A nice place to spend a couple of hours. $10 per person admission.

I just walked all around and through this park at four in the morning and felt quite safe, even though a homeless guy was sleeping on a bench there (well lit, law enforcement driving by regularly), but women who walk early should be two or more if it’s dark. I really enjoyed the solitude and the air temperature, but know that very early they water the grass. During the day a pretty fountain flows and nice views can be had from many benches. BTW the brickwork is very even and well placed.

A well maintained trail, with the exception of the star thistle in some parts of the trail. If your dog tend s to roam off the path, be careful of foxtails. Well enough traveled to be a safe trail. Please pick up after your dogs, as bags are provided.

There is lots of up and downhill walking. The map at the kiosk does not show the topographic layout so it's hard to tell what trail to take. We hiked all of the trails and there are some that required a few stops along the way do the steepness of the climb. They were all do-able. We ran into a couple of courteous bikers along the way who were able to handle the hills.

This is a nice short hike in a beautiful Oak forest, and I do mean Oaks, everywhere...as far as the eye can see. The trail is super clean and a consistent 4’ wide hard pack dirt path. Can be done with any walking shoe or sturdy sandal. Nothing treacherous or too steep. It’s a slow steady uphill on the first half of the loop and the reverse on the way back. Lots of wildlife and some beautiful views along the way. Also, we went in the heat of the day and there’s lots of mixed sun/shade, so still a very comfortable walk. All said, you’ll be in and out in a little over an hour. You definitely need to go in through the neighborhood, following the signage to the parking lot and trail head. There are lots of little brown signs. Do not think you can park anywhere on Hwy 41 and get to it easily like some GPS options make it seem. Even though the trail is right there, it’s on the other side of the creek and maybe only by horseback would you attempt it.

The docent was very knowledgeable and gave us some interesting tidbits. Without visiting the museum we would have never known the fascinating reason for Atascadero and how it came to be. Worth taking 45 mins of your time, if in Atascadero.

Yes it is in the middle of a jewelry store but the service is great. The wines are all ok except the Zinfandel is fantastic.

Nice little Antique and resale (2nd hand) store at the south end of town, on the El Camino. A little hard to see / find sometimes from the street, but worth the chance to stop and look around. They have collectables, Jewelry, Antiques, Home Décor, linens, and vintage clothing. They have higher quality items, and also some unique things as well. Friendly staff and usually have new items whenever we stop in, on the way through town (about once a month or so).

Saw Batman last night. Not the first time I've been and definitely not the last. The theater was sooo hot and overpriced but a nice splurge every once in awhile

The Lone Prince of SLOdippo goes on yet another SLO-dipitous journey.

In dire need of liquid sustenance, we selected the discount store. After gazing upon a selection of fermented liquids, one caught the eye. It was not only made with local apples, but hailed from some craftsmen in the Quiet Village of Atascadero town.

A singular sip & snort from the humble squat brown bottle made one's senses tingle. Savoring every drop of this golden brew, one could only wonder how to somehow find more. It was far easier than finding a blind lame camel in a far off land and involved a net thrown over the nearby lands north of us.

As I cautiously & rather skeptically approached, the master of Cider magic revealed himself, as Cody the Cider King. Cody the Cider King was both kind and wise.

Never before did I know what magical creations can be done with the variety of local Apples, amazing skill, & various scents & colors that one could barely guess at. One brew was more amazing and magical than the next. One would have guess that one pinkish brew involved some berries, but Cody the Cider King kindly redirected me to think more creatively. Indeed, it involved red beets, fennel, & numerous apples.

Some brews involved sweeter apple varieties and some involved those on the more sour side.

Some involved hard spirits, like whiskey, and some were aged in the old barrels that used to make them.

I then headed home, with my precious new Ciders tucked carefully in the trunk of my Camel-less Conveyance.

We were looking for a place in Atascadero and found the Grape Encounter. They offer some pretty good wines.

I got there right when they opened at 5:00 AM and looked at the menu and the case for a bit, then asked about a pineapple ring Summer special that she said became available later in the day (bummer), so I got my brother what I think he thinks a bear claw is, along with a cinnamon roll, I got a bacon topped maple bar. I thought since I got there right when they opened I’d get some warm donuts, but alas it was not to be (back in South Carolina I went to Duck donuts where they dipped regular cake donuts in warm glaze and sprinkle warm bacon on top; that was heaven). They are pricey (3 donuts for $11). Good, but not donut perfection (Krispy Kreme regular glazed between 6 and 9).

Every time we travel through the central coast, Hubs and I stop at this charming little bookstore. It is all used books at extremely competitive prices. A wonderful selection with an extremely helpful young woman behind the counter. Light and airy - not a dark, dusty, claustrophobic store like some we've been to. We purchased THREE large bags of books! Well worth a special trip. Go there!!
