Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

    So much history and interesting info built into this site. A must see in the day, but definitely at night.

    We visited here during an evening guided tour. I twas late in the evening and it's situated just below and to the left of the Lincoln memorial as you stand with the memorial behind you. However, the memorial has the names of every American soldier who was a victim of the war and what's impressive is that the names start in 1959 from half was down the memorial, and in a circular route come back to the last victims of 1975, right next to this. This was a deliberate act by the sculpture. The names are listed from the date they were listed as casualties, while at the top of the monument are catalogues in a rain proofed lecturn detailing everyone's names.

    The Korean War Memorial is impressive at night. It is located a very short walk from the Lincoln Memorial and is also much less crowded. The memorial grounds are almost silent as you walk by the realistic statues of soldiers and the memorial wall.

    The view never gets old and never disappoints. The most annoying part of the entire experience is actually getting the times tickets 30 days in advance. But totally worth the trouble for the view.

  • PROS
    •Significant memorial honoring those who fought (and
    died) for our freedom
    • Solemn and sobering tribute
    • Architecturally unique
    • Appropriately Prominent Location on our National Mall, under the watchful error of Presidents Washington
    and Lincoln
    • Important to visit

    CONS
    • Not so easy to park nearby
    • Visitors do not give it the solemn reference that it deserves- dipping her in the water pools if showered and exploited
    • Children and youth on bicycles

    “I VISITED THIS PLACE “…
    … to honor the brace soldiers, including my father and my first cousin.

  • PROS
    * Beautiful building
    * Unbelievably beautiful structure
    * Classic Greek/Roman Temple architecture appearance
    * Breath-taking location
    * Charming and delightful Tidal Basin area
    * Suitable honor to the Founding Fathers who was the principal writer of the Declaration of Independence and our third President
    * Amazing giant statue of the statesman
    * Beautiful view from there of the water, the Washington Monument and the MLK Memorial

    CONS
    * “Off the beaten track”
    * Parking is minimal, confusing and challenging and changing.
    * One must walk a distance to get there
    * Currently, there is construction

    “I VISITED THIS PLACE”…
    … because I am always drawn to its beauty and its grandeur. I loved walking and approaching it, seeing it closed up, ascending the steps, viewing the towering gigantic likeness statue of him in a statesman pose, and also I read the quotes on the walls of his documents

    I didn’t enjoy getting there by car and trying to park.

    TIPS
    First of all, it’s fantastic to see from afar and from close- do your best to go.

    You can park at the paddle boat launch site of the Tidal Basin and walk over a kind of foot bridge or you can park at the very end of Ohio Drive SW.

    Do not forget that it is metered parking.

    I HOPE THAT YOU FIND THIS REVIEW AND MY ATTACHED PHOTOS TO BE “HELPFUL.”

    Cannot put to words how much visiting the MLK Memorial moved us during our trip to Washington DC. We visited in the fall, so the summer rush was over. The memorial is located along Independence Ave SW near the Lincoln Memorial and Washington Monument. We had taken the Metro Train from our hotel to the Mall, and walked to all the museums, etc. And walked some more! I would strongly suggest not trying to drive to the Mall, as parking is limited and EXPENSIVE. Buy the weekly unlimited Metro pass if you're going to be in DC several days like us. Look for a review of the Metro in it's own review by me.

    Hope you enjoy your stay in DC, and your visit to this magnificent memorial.

    We made a great walk all around tne monuments in DC. From Vietnam memorial and Lincoln Memorial to Jefferson memorial, passing thru Korean War M., MLKing M. and FDR Memorial. FDR is a nice place to walk around and has several quotes from FDR. For me and my wife, was really worth it.

  • PROS
    * Great and fun monument- five or six times life size
    * Commemorating our greatest scientist and brainy mathematician
    * Fun to see and admire the detail
    * Climbing on it is a must
    * Take a photo while sitting in his "lap" and send it to National Academy of Sciences
    * Across the street from Vietnam War Veterans Memorial

    CONS
    * Less well known
    * Less frequently visited (maybe these both are good things)

    "I VISITED THI PLACE"...
    ... because I had wanted to do that for many years on my occsional visits to the monuments circuit tour at night, but never quite made it. This time, I did- during the morning hours, and I thoroughly enjoyed myself in analyzing and photgraphing the sculpture, and of course being photographed while sitting in his lap (see my photos which show my legs and shoes over and parallel to his).

    TIP
    * Of course do it
    * If after ke2000h or other off hours, parking can be directly on Constitution Avenue or one of the small cross streets of the mid20's.
    * Read the explanation postings on the side of the tiny plaza
    * For sure have your photo taken as described, and then submit it to the National Academy of Sciences (no- I didn't do that).

    This is an excellent smaller version of the Navy Museum on Navy Yard base but very enjoyable. Lots of photos and more focus on individuals rather than chips or data. Well worth a visit and probably better for those not so familiar with the Navy.

    It is easy to forget the impacts war has on people. This memorial reminds us the challenges Vietnam put on others that were not fighting in the war. It reminds us that women were there as men were being killed, at home wondering if a loved was going to return alive, and doing what they could at home to support.

    Overall, this is memorial presents a perspective to the Vietnam war and really tells a unique story.

    Could not have been more pleased with this stunning tribute to JPII! Moving exhibits detailing his life and dedication to our Lord and Mother complete with Relics. Spend some time and immerse yourself in the amazing life, ministry and obedience. Truly remarkable. A Saint whom has intimately touched our lives in so many ways. Grateful for the opportunity

    Very well done memorial on Capitol Hill. Not only is the memorial a great tribute in its own right, but allows for some great photos with the Capitol in the background.

  • PROS
    • Fantastic artwork of detailed sculpture
    • Realistic lifelike and powerful
    • Meaningful and thought provoking
    • Somber and sobering
    • Relatable because it is “only” life size
    • “Hidden gem”

    CONS
    • Not publicized as much as other memorials

    “I VISITED THIS PLACE”…
    … when going from the Lincoln Memorial to the Vietnam War Memorial at night. I did not expect to see it there- quite a surprise and write meaningful and lifelike- something that we should all be able to relate to.

    TIP
    Look for it before the Vietnam war memorial and be sure to see it – it’s quite realistic and life-size and we can relate to it… I hope
