Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Nice old city full of historical buildings and places. Amazing churches, beautiful streets, green parks. Clean, friendly and compact city.

Quiet relaxing garden perfect for a meditation retreat from the city and yet so close to it. It's especially beautiful in summer when the weather is sunny and the flowers are blooming.

The neoclassical main building is a prominent landmark in Tartu, which is known as the intellectual capital of Estonia.

The university itself dates back to 1632 and is now located across the city. The main museum is located in the park, but the main building has a small museum with plaster casts of classical statues, paintings of the university and a few Egyptian artefacts while along the corridor are prints by Durer and other artists.

When a guide is available, you can apparently visit the student cells at the top of the building.

As one side of the main building there is a photographic project with members of the academic community looking out onto the street.

Grab a pair of skates for €3 and hop on a free rink for a hour. Don't expect high-speed sporting, tho :p

Located in a park, this unusual sculpture by Ulo Oun portrays himself and his 18 month old son, but of equal height. Different people have given it different meanings, but one is that it represents the changing periods in the father son-relationship through life.

One of several statues worth exploring in the centre.

Huge sculpture pig in front of the covered market. Guess the pig escaped from the butcher! Very fun!

This is an automatic "included" if you visit the former cathedral/library, now the university museum. Well set-up and maintained place, nice to walk. The only "but", apart from the rain, are the cobblestones - so ladies, wear flat shoes and all, wear comfortable shoes.

It's a great place for everyone to spend the afternoon. Vast selection of shops with good prices and places where you can eat and chill. It's easily accessible and there is free public transport. You can take the bus from the Kaubamaja bus stop for example and it stops right in front of the shopping centre.

Great church made of brick part of the Baltic Brick Gothic Churches (mainly in Baltic states, Poland, Germany, Denmark). These churches and areas are all associated with the Hanseatic League and the trade and wealth that these areas enjoyed. Besides the amazing brick work (stop outside and really look at this intricate Gothic workmanship) building is the terracotta faces. Each one is different, so not from a mold. Some with crowns, period hats and head coverings, all with different facial features both men and women. There are over 200 and if you have a small pair of binoculars it helps. If you only do one church in this town - this is the gem to see!

Slightly hidden away, this is perhaps now Tartu's most famous statue with the two writers Oscar Wilde and Eduard Vilde deep in conversation, with a space on the bench just large enough for one of their fans to join the conversation....

Did they ever meet? No-one knows, but perhaps they did.

lovely bridge to walk over and legend goes you must go over the bridge holding your breath and your wish will come true. so that was fun trying to do that. lots of uni students all dressed up getting photos before they go back to school. nothing too special about the bridge but the legend is good and its fun

I stayed in an apartment directly opposite this beautiful building. When the light is right it is amazing. Located a 15min walk away from the town centre.
