Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Ahhhh yes, here we go. A race for the oldest in anything is bound to create controversy and stir up passions in tourists who use visits to these place as badges of honor. It’s safe to say that consensus is that this medicinal dispensary has been operating in the same location since 1422, making this year its 600th anniversary. The majority of that time the business was under control of the Burchart family, who ran it for over 300 years and whose coat of arms is displayed over the entrance. Entrance is free.

It’s tough to tell where the real pharmacy ends and the museum begins, although most would agree that the latter simply spills over a little bit into the first room. Real pharmacists and cashiers greet you at the entrance and obviously fulfill the needs (and prescriptions) of locals who patronize them. While there are a few historical artifacts in the first room, it’s really in the rear that the museum comes alive. Innumerable examples of medications (arranged chronologically), weighing/preparation instruments, base ingredients, and medicinal directions (“Dried toads must be hanged below the ceiling against the plague.”) are present throughout. An electronic display reviews the history of the museum starting in the mid-1800’s. Miscellaneous souvenirs are for sale in the main room as well.

In summary, this was an interesting if eccentric view into the history of medications, especially for those of us in health care. Like many attractions in the the Old Town, the structure itself is historical and creates a museum-in-a-museum effect if that makes sense. My only small quibble was that in its entirety it didn’t quite tell a coherent story but that’s certainly understandable given the space constraints and breadth of material. Overall, though, it was a unique glimpse into the past and great way to spend an hour. Highly recommended.

What a lovely shopping centre with a good range of shops, all laid out in sections I.e. all shoe shops together, fashion shops together etc. we had a snack and a few drinks on the top floor eating area , O’Learys sports bar and absolutely loved it. It was handy to get to by the No. 4 tram from the city centre.

A gem of a shop. Worth a visit even if you do not buy anything. Time travel. Craftmanship. Inspiration. Quality. Joy. Attention to detail. The big picture. All there.

This shopping center was conveniently located across the street from our Tallink City Hotel.

The legendary skyscraper hotel Viru from 1972 is directly connected to it. You don't even have to step outside if you are staying at this hotel.

You can find many shops, cafes, and restaurants from here. Under the mall is a bus station for the city buses.

The Karariina Gild is in a historic and architecturally interesting building. It consists of a number of interlinked craft workshops where talented craftswomen make and sell their beautiful leatherwork, textiles, glass, ceramics and more. We came here twenty years ago. This time we showed Anni Kreem a photo of the patchwork bedspread we bought on that previous occasion. She proudly showed us a new bedspread and we were delighted to buy it. The workmanship is outstanding. We also talked to Eve Hintsov and highly recommend her leather products. We bought a number of items and will treasure them. This is the place to come for things that are beautiful, functional and hand-made by the people you meet.

More of a bottle shop than a bar, not very cozy atmossphere, more like a shop. But the selection! Definitely enough for even the most demanding beer lover.

My favorite bookstore in Tallinn. Two floors of books, nicely sectioned by topics. Lot of English and Russian literature. Also notebooks, gifts, music, cafes on both levels. When you leave the store, you can continue browsing on their online store.

As the same says, this narrow but quite long street goes along the walls of the Old Town.

Usually, there have been market stalls in the shadows of the city wall selling handicrafts. Estonian craftswomen have set up shops to sell their hand-knitted products but they had all disappeared.

Estonians like to give credit to their artisans and the shops often display their pictures on the wall. In the world of mass production it is nice to know who made the artefact you purchased. The two shops offer textiles, leather and metalworks, wooden household items - all modern designs with a local look.
