Haapsalu old town is my favorite place to visit in Estonia. The small old town is surrounded by the sea, very nice small streets to walk, visit some restaurants or cafe´. There were places on the sea where the ice was cleaned from snow and ice skaters enjoying themselves. The town is not busy in winter time, rather peaceful. Lots of great apartments available, some close to the old town even have sauna and zacuzzi where we relaxed.

Impressive castle to visit with children. There was a children playground just a few minutes walk from the castle. This is a must visit in Haapsalu and a very good reason to visit Haapsalu. We visited last time in December 2021 but know that there are lots of events like concerts and American car show organised during summer months. A few hours past quite fast walking around and in the castle.

We enjoyed walking almost the entire promenade, very nice as it goes all the way at the sea and around the Haapsalu old town. It has parks, restaurants, the Africa beach and cafe´s. The Africa beach itself seems to be very suitable to visit even with smaller children and they have a playground just close to the beach. We enjoyed visiting Haapsalu as there are many restaurants and nice apartments to choose from. Our apartment even had sauna and a jacuzzi and no need to visit any of the SPA hotels.

The bus stopped right next to the train station which is now a museum and a good place to start exploring Haapsalu. The building itself is rather grand and the platform is 216 m long. The Russian Czars used to come here as it was a summer resort town. Part of the station building has an imperial pavilion. The station was used from 1904 to 1995 and is now a museum. Some old railway stock can be seen on the tracks and there is a small entrance fee but i was never charged.

This is a small museum but interesting to spend an hour here. I never realised how many Swedes lived along the coastline and islands. There are documentaries to watch while you are there and some old houses outside as well as an annex across the road. Also there is a small walkway over the water where you can see their traditional boats. Well worth the 3 euro entrance fee.

This is a place to sit after having a walk on a beach side of the city.
As you approach the bench, you begin to hear the composer's music and information about him.

Surprise after surprise we were getting at in the magic Haapsalu Town and one of them was this amazing Haapsalu Shawl Museum.
It is located in Ehte street, just above the region of Haapsalu Episcopial Castle. Actually, this museum is settled in a jewellery workshop, with a permanent exhibition on the past and present of the Haapsalu shawl, that shows to the visitors the very fine patterns of shawls and generally, the art of knitting handicraft.
Also is possible to buy one of the masterpieces for yourself.
We were very glad to see such nice exhibition.

This church can be found in a park by the promenade. Unfortunately it was closed during my visit but still it makes for a beautiful photograph.

We were welcomed by the hostess who told us about the artists life and paintings. The house has very interesting architecture and interior design is authentic.
    Definitely visit when in Haapsalu!

A dolomite creation Sundial, was completed by Roman Haavamae, a well known designer and sculptor of Haapsalu urban area, in 1924. It tells the story of human life from the beginning to the end and the text along the perimeter says :Thus a human life disappeares in the endless circle of time...
