Great botanical garden, one of the best ones I've seen in central Europe. Right in the centre, the entrance is only 3€ for an adult and 1€ to be allowed to take pictures (they give you a pass).

The outside area could be a little more rich with flowers.

As a tip I would say that if you visit this place, make sure you have a bottle of water and very light clothing as the temperature in the greenhouses is unbelievably high and humid (to maintain exotic species).

I was wearing a jumper in April and felt like I'm gonna faint haha.

Just a short walk from Hlavna, a lovely space, huge established trees, a beautifully preserved bandstand, play facilities, and a fountain display to enjoy.

I have a few things and tips for future visitors to say about this place.
(My tips are for the time when there is no global pandemic happening)

First of all, it's my home village - I grew up here and left when I started university. I often come back for short visits and I can just say, there is SO MUCH POTENTIAL. The place has a history worth mentioning - it was once a Europe famous spa in 19th century and it got destroyed during WWII. After that it never returned to the famous spa (or even just spa) state.

Right now, it's a super nice and quiet place to stay for a while. The geyser is a spectacular experience, or so I've heard, haha. For me it was part of life, growing up there and playing with other kids in the park, we saw so many eruptions of geyser I couldn't even count it all.

If you are a family, definitely come here, bring blankets and food. You can have super nice picnic here, kids can play around on the grass and you can just relax in the shadows of the huge trees.

If you are a couple, it's very nice and romantic place to spend the afternoon. Again, picnic material!

If you are solo traveling, this is a nice stop on your bike or hike adventure.

WHAT TO DO (beside waiting for geyser):

    /Rankovske skaly rocks/
This place happen to be 1-hour hike away, the rocks offer marvelous views of the region and the hike is not difficult at all. It's a natural reservation with communities of rare and endangered plant species.

It's located 2 km away from Herlany in forest-covered hill of the Hradisko elevation point. It was originated as an aristocratic residence in the second half of 13th century.

    /Male Brdo/
Another nature reserve, the slopes are built of andesite, it's full of well-preserved natural communities. Definitely your next favourite oak-wood oasis.

    /Slanske vrchy mountains/
Even though they are not High Tatras, they are still pretty good. The mountains are of volcanic origin and they are notable for their rich mining activity and world famous Dubnik opal gems. Near Herlany area there can be found common opals and fleshy opals. There are many castle ruins, castles and archaelogical excavations of European importance throughout Slanske vrchy. Other nearby hills that you can hike from Herlany are Mosnik, Lazy and Makovica.

    /Restaurant in the park/
There are preserved buildings in the park that are protected as a historical monuments. They are partially reconstructed spa objects and now serve as a restaurant and acommodation facilities. The whole area of the park is owned by Technical University in Kosice.

The said restaurant + hotel serve mostly as a wedding or ball venue, it's a place for huge family gatherings, cultural events, or TUKE events etc. - it DOES NOT work as your usual restaurant, you have to reserve the venue in advance.

BUT!! If you are a tourist and not their guest, you can still order coffee at the reception when the terrace outside of the main building is open.

If they don't have a huge wedding or kids camp going on, the rooms are available to book. Or you can try airbnb!

    /Shop, grocery store/
There is your usual little village shop, grocery store three minutes outside of the park. (Behind the church, up the road and to the right.)

Local pub is situated right next to the grocery store, they serve beer and other beverages and usually they even make pizza and stuff.

/snack bar on the parking lot/
It looks quite bad and they only serve drinks and snacks. It's usually open from May until October.

I'm putting 4 stars, because it has so much potential and so many things to improve! Since February 2021 and for the upcoming months of the year there is a reconstruction planned for the park and geyser area. There should be a new playground for kids and hopefully a café, too.

I expected more animals to be there..also ,
it would be good if one could buy animal food to feed the children
