Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.
Learn more about our review moderation.

What travellers are saying
- Kate HColorado155 contributionsThis is a beautiful and interesting church from the outside- access to the interior was closed. It is worth the walk from Old Town as you get to see some more of the city and then this gem pops out at you.Written 24 October 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - maserkColorado Springs, CO1,859 contributionsThis cathedral is conveniently close to the Bratislava Castle and should not be missed if you're in that part of town. It's also quite near the dock for the Twin City Liner (hydrofoil from Vienna), so that's the first place we went when we arrived. The exterior doesn't look at that impressive. But the inside is lovely; and we were treated to an impromptu organ recital when the organist suddenly started playing a few pieces. It was such a treat! Historically, the kings and queens of Hungary were coronated in this cathedral, which is pretty cool.Written 7 October 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Derek TDublin, Ireland166 contributionsBeautiful church inside and out. Very close to tram links in the centre of the city. There is a short introduction with information about the church delivered by a guide and some organ music to finish. This is about 30 minutes and has a small fee of €5, payable at the door. There are relic bones at a shrine of the only married couple who are saints.
It's very unique in design and decoration with a strong use of blue, obviously, hence the name of The Blue Church.
This is a Roman Catholic church which still holds masses regularly.Written 30 August 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. It was then turned into a Renaissance church in the 17th century and into a Baroque church in the 18th century.Written 18 November 2019This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Carol HDe Pere, WI1,034 contributionsMy spouse and I were fortunate to find the door to this church open as we walked about during our free day in Bratislava. Built in 1717, it belongs to the Capuchin order, and is consecrated to saint Stephen, the first Hungarian king. The interior exhibits a simple, but notable beauty with its cream-colored walls, which contrast dramatically with the dark wood pews and altars. The finely-painted Baroque high altar especially stands out.
The square on which the church is found is decorated with a column to the Virgin Mary.
We enjoyed this church immensely, and hope that you will also!Written 7 November 2019This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Josie IinoCambridge, UK735 contributionsI actually really enjoyed this Church. It provided something very different from the other churches I had been to in the area. It was small, and filled to the brim with idols. I found it quite charming.Written 23 August 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - ITRTVirginia44,662 contributionsThis church was once a Protestant church in the 17th century and was later acquired by the Ursuline nuns who came from Vienna and Cologne. It was the original Little Lutheran built in the same time frame as the Jesuit church but served the Slovak speaking Protestant community. It was seized during the anti-reformation and was given to the order of Saint Ursula not long after completion. The nuns mission was to establish schools and colleges. The statue of the Madonna on the main altar is a copy of Our Lady of Loreto in Italy. The wood for the statue came from the Holy Land. It is a wonderful tribute to the Virgin Mary. The main altar is beautiful and it well worth your time to visit this church.Written 4 November 2015This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - ITRTVirginia44,662 contributionsChurch of The Visitation of Virgin Mary in Bratislava is located in the historical center of the city on the square of the Slovak National Uprising. The church is Baroque in style and is part of the complex of the hospital. On the sides of the altar are four sculptures including St. John of God, founder of the Order of the Hospitaller Brothers of Mercy. Besides the main altar, there are altars dedicated to St. Elizabeth, St. Cyril and St. John Nepomuk.Written 6 November 2015This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Neil KLiverpool, UK829,080 contributionsA lot of people visit Námestie SNP to pay tribute to the people who sacrificed their lives in the 1944 Slovak uprising against the Nazi's during WW2, the memorial to the fallen is superb and the architecture around this square is superb especially the beautiful Church Of The Merciful Brothers ( Kostol Milosrdnych Bratov ) which is a stunning Church that looks so evocative.
A beautiful church built in the stunning Baroque style of architecture I so enjoy looking at ,the spire looks superb,I never had time to visit the interior but I was happy to just marvel at the sheer beauty of this church and take a few photos, the church looked particularly impressive at night when illuminated.
Easy to locate on Namestie SNP and Most definitely well worth checking out.Written 19 December 2018This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
