Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

The area around Salgótarján, Hungary is full of old castles, mostly partly refurbished only, but they are still impressive in their state of ruin.
It is worth to visit Salgo Castle ( abt 600 m over sea level) from where you have a beautiful panorama on the opposite Somoskő Castle, and on the surrounding hills and colourful autumn forests.
The road up to Salgo Castle is a bit steep and rocky at the end.
Not far from the Salgó castle on the other direction you may also climb Boszorkánykő ( Witch-Stone) an interesting piece of basalt rock.
There are nice tourist walking routes in the surrounding forests.
On the Slovak side of the border not far from Somoskő you might have a tasty dinner, with a good beer after the day tour. In Somoskő village there are many hostels, aparments available ( some allow pets as well) but in high season you have to make a reservation well in advance.

If you have an interest in paleontology, fossilised footprints, petrified trees and plants then add this one to your list. A bit off the tourist track, it is worth the trip with numerous exhibits from 17 million years ago in their original location. Well set up for other activities including walking trails and children's exploration. For non-Hungarian speakers, not a problem - our guide Gabor provided informative and well researched information in English. Make a day of it and take a picnic. Fascinating place that provides plenty of opportunity to learn about the animals and plants that inhabited the Miocene forest starting with a virtual reality tour through a wormhole in time.
