What a great tour ... I can't stress nigh how many times we have been given a hearing device and told to hear the commentary and how awful they are ....

But what I can say ... this was totally opposite ... the commentary was spot on and excellent and informative ...

The tour is guided by a security guard and one must be at the entrance to go thru metal detectors like an airport a couple of minutes before your designated time.

Once on the self walking tour the information given is excellent ... it's a short 45 minutes but you enter the main rooms and get to see the Hungarian crown jewels which are spectacular to say the least.

I never felt rushed and really thought it was a highlight of our trip.

Entrance fee is a bit steep but I think it was worth it ... YOU must get tickets at least 2/3 weeks in advance especially for the weekends.

    Highly recommend it ...

Paying to enter the prime photo section of Fisherman’s Bastion isn’t essential, but is worth it for the slightly better angle you get on the classic Budapest River scenery.
Even on a busy day there were plenty of places to capture the perfect picture of the Parliament, the Chain Bridge and the river.
The other great spot for photos is on the terrace in front of the Palace, which is free, and gets you a close up view of the Bridge.

The mighty Danube - the river that has its springs in Germany and that passing through Europe from west to east , passing through 4 country capitals until finally is reaching the Black Sea in Romania forming a spectacular delta in the process.
But now lest talk about the Danube in Budapest - the river is basically splitting the city in 2 halves, 1 side Pest - with the impressive building of the Parliament on the shores of the river.
The other side Buda - with spectacular Castle hill and the Fishermen bastion facing the Danube.
Now during the day / or during the night you can walk on both shores, cross one of the many bridges that are connecting the 2 halves of the city - and you will not be disappointed.
But what I do recommend you do when you are in Budapest - take an evening cruise and see the buildings on the shore of the Danube lit in the evening lights, the Castle Hill is splendid in the evening , the Parliament is most spectacular seen from the river in its evening lights - now that is what I recommend to everybody.
And don't forget when you are walking during the day , or during the night , to walk with your eyes open - you'll find some very interesting spots on both shores of the river.

A beautiful place to explore at your own pace. The restaurant was fantastic.
The museum was disappointing, lots of artefacts, but no coherent explanation of the changes over time and what is origional.

The biggest market in Budapest is nicely organized and prices seem fair and pretty steady from booth to booth. The first floor is mostly raw food while the top floor is souvenirs stores with some fast food offering local stuff.

We spent about an hour here and saw just about everything.

Place is actually very clean and does not smell which is very surprising since it's a closed market and not open air.

All trams and buses stop in front of the market so it's easy to get to and from.

Got to make sure you get there early to avoid the bug crowds.

This church is simply awesome. It stands in a lovely large square and has various colours, lots of steeples, clock towers and intricate architecture. It's bells sound on the hour every hour too! Inside is mesmerising with a fabulous array of colourful designs all around it's walls and ceiling. It has beautiful coloured pillars, a majestic altar and lovely alcoves each side of the altar. There is an entrance fee but if you want to get in for free, do as I did and attend the thirty minute mass at 18:00 where you'll also avoid all the crowds. Not to be missed.

I went to the Hungarian National Opera to see Swan Lake. The interiors were beautiful, richly decorated, with a large foyer (it reminded me a lot of the National Theatre in Prague). I was a little disappointed that you couldn't buy a paper programme there. It was available only online. Unfortunately, we, who don't use data, couldn't read the programme before the performance. The building itself is really very beautiful and it is definitely worth visiting.

The Szechenyi Lanchid - or Szechenyi Chain Bridge if you prefer - another iconic landmark of the city of Budapest - you've seen it in movies, videoclips, etc.
It was built between 1840 and 1849 based on the design of the English engineer William Tierney Clark with the actual building process supervised and led by the Scottish engineer Adam Clark.
When it was built it has been the first permanent bridge over the Danube in Budapest.
It is 375 meters in length and 15 meters in width - built of iron and stone - and it has a very beautiful design - for those of you who are into architecture for sure it would worth some time spent and admiring this construction.
On both ends of the bridge you shall find statues of lions - beautifully carved in stone ( there is also an urban legend attached to these lions , but I let you find it out) - those also worth some pictures.
When in Budapest it is definitely worth including the chain bridge on your to see / to do list ... for sure it is worth it.

A calm within the hustle and bustle of the city. Spent many an hour walking around the island. Stopped for lunch, yes a Langos obviously! Plenty of things to see and unwind.
