Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

A lovely little museum in a great location. You don't need a lot of time to visit, but I chose to stay a little longer and soak in the calm atmosphere. Sibelius's wonderful music in the background is a great touch, and the staff is incredibly helpful.

Häme castle plays an important part in Finnish history. Not big, but plenty to see, including corridoors and winding staircases kids will love.

The castle surroundings are also beautiful. There's also a nice small playground for kids. Free parking.

    TIP:

You can get a combination ticket for the two other sights that are closely linked with the castle, both historically and geographically: the prison museum and the military museum of the old garrison. The three walk you through lots of interesting history - and is real value for money.

If it's in your budget, take the chance to blow your own glass vase. There are lots of nice shops with homemade Finnish crafts. These merchants are true artisans of their trade. Their is also a nice cafe to grab lunch.

Medieval church worth to visit. The mass held every Sunday at 10 and it is open to visitors. Church is just next to open air museum and old village center with pictoresque houses and views to the lake.

The old residential area of Hauhon around the church is a unique cultural landscape complex. You can still see plenty of old and idyllic buildings. There is also an outdoor local history museum and small room for histocical tools. This place is worth to visit Hauho and spend at least one hour just walking around.

The Town Hall of Hämeenlinna is located by Market Square.

The French Renaissance building was completed in 1888.

In addition to the town's own use, the premises are leased to the community for a banquet and conference place.

The first railway bridge over Vanajavesi was built in the 1870s when the railway line was extended from Hämeenlinna in the direction of Tampere. The first bridge was damaged during the Civil War in 1918.

The new arch bridge made of steel was completed in the early 1920s. The railway bridge was widened with another similar arch bridge in 1960 when the second pair of tracks in the direction of Tampere was built.

In 1953-1981, there was a pier for Hopealinja boats next to the bridge. Trains stopped here and you could take a scenic cruise in the direction of Tampere.

When traveling by train from Helsinki to Tampere, the views are most beautiful at this point. You will see the stunning Vanajavesi Lake and the historic Aulanko Hotel.

We have gone many times under this bridge while walking from the railway station to the hotel or back. It is a scenic 4-kilometer lakeside walk.

This Tiina Torkkeli's Lotta-themed work features a veterinary Lotta and a horse’s head. In Lotta's lap is a symbolic ball assembled from horseshoes. The material of the sculpture is shiny recycled metal.

This work was originally intended to be placed in Forssa, but there it was seen as political. The sculpture finally got a place in Hämeenlinna. It was unveiled in June 2019 in the Library Park along Pikkutorinkuja.

Karl Gustaf Larson (1873–1948) was a Finnish poet. He is better known as Larin-Kyösti. He was born in Hämeenlinna.

This bronze statue was revealed in 1962 in a park between Market Square and Hämeenlinna Church.

In the sculpture, Larin-Kyösti is depicted in a characteristic position - sitting in his thoughts, leaning on his knees with his elbows.
