#1 of 10 Nature & Parks in Whanganui
Beautiful gardens, lovely place to go for a quiet walk in nature, or to take the family or friends on a picnic, lots of shaded areas & bbq facilities.
With th current closure of Kowhai Park for our family gathering, we went out to Bason Botanic Gardens - beautiful large venue of interesting botanic areas, and brillant BBQ's and areas to spread out and picnic.

The scenic tranquil nature of Virginia Lake will captivate you, force you against you will to walk round the lake, and absorb all its beauty.
This park has been well maintained by the Council and continues to be a local favourite - good place to feed the ducks, take an easy stroll around the park, have a picnic etc.

It was always a treat going there most weekends and to this day, kids from around the world get the same pleasure, fun and learning from the great range of play equipment available in the park.

There is a low carpark near the beach or a high car park for the great panoramic view... the vista takes in the coast right up to Taranaki in the North and right down to Kapiti in the South.
Our visit to the beach was a great experience of the power of nature with wild winds and pounding surf.
