The lake is beatiful and the locks are an experience. Plenty of scenery to take in. Definitely a recommendable trip.

Plenty of history around in this nice, quiet neighborhood. There are not really that much left of the actual fortress (only the outer walls, I think...) but nice old buiildings and a nice view to the lake.

Interesting spot. I wonder how do they manage to keep their sculpture up even with the rain and the wind. Do they blaze the sand somehow?

This charming church can be found at the Lappeenranta Fortress. It was completed in 1785 during the reign of Catherine the Great.

The church was closed during our visit. So we couldn't see the interior.

The house museum can only be visited on a guided tour, but it is worth the effort. An excellent presentation shed light on the history of Ivan W, who came to Finland as a serf in the 1840s, became a Finnish citizen, and his rise to one of the wealthiest men in Lappeenranta. He was a true serial entrepreneur. The house and Wolkoff's story tell how a free society feeds creativity by giving everyone the opportunity to succeed, regardless of their origin. At the same time, the history of the house tells about the connections between Finland and Russia, which Russia's aggressive attack on Ukraine has now destroyed for years. But the perspective of the house's history is in decades or even longer.

It's a really cool place with lots of shops of all sort, ranging from clothes to mobile stuff and of course several good cafeterias as well. The wifi of the centre was not working during my time and that was annoying but luckily there are several open wifi's available so it shouldn't be a problem.

I share the assessment of the earlier reviews. A small, cozy museum. But the Russian aggressive war in Ukraine has made the museum even more interesting. It tells a story how Finland and the USSR / Russia were able to build a positive reletionship, benefitting both. But this was interrupted by the Russian attack on Finland in 1939 (the Winter War), and again in 2022 by the Russian attack on Ukraine. Who can repare the relationship, when and how? The last time it took 18 years, from 1945 to 1963.

Finally, you can also easily reach the museum by bike.

Very large church with a belltower, worth a visit, although it did not look to be open so you couldn't go inside.

At first sight you are amazed. When you look at the church outside, you might think it is a runway to heaven. Someone would say it is not beautiful becaus it is made of concrete. We thought it is beautiful in it's own way.

During our visit the place was partially closed so we could not see all the animals. But it was fun to see what ever we could see. We tried catching fish from the pond which was also fun experience (because its pretty much guaranteed that you would catch something xD ).

This is a good place especially for children and families.

Inside theme park at the "Capri" Shopping center. 18 eur for each (3 yrs and up) or 58 eur for the whole family. You can leave the place and come back with the bracelet. Our 5 yrs old boy enjoyed very much and I can imagine it will be even better after few years, when he gets older. In my opinion, it's a little bit over priced - compared to bigger outdoor theme parks. But hey, this is fun also in winter time or when it's raining!

Video games, rope slide, foam block sea, inside real ice hockey and football style games, paddle cars, slides, Angry Birds toons.

There is also variety of merchandise available and a cafe.

This is an orthodox-style church with domes on the top. It looks interesting from the outside, but could not go in. It's quite big and is worth a visit

Lappeenranta Central Station is located within a 10 minutes walk from the city center. The station is served by traffic to Helsinki and Joensuu.

The station building was completed in 1934. The building was renovated in the early 2000s.

The station has a cafe-restaurant, a taxi stop, and a bus stop.
