I arrived at the bridge at around 15 minutes before showtime, so I didn’t get an unobstructed view on the spectacle due to the crowd that had already packed both sides of the road.

The event opened at 6.00 pm with loudspeakers starting to churn out an orchestral piece fitting to the scene which was about to slowly unfold. Over the course of some 10 minutes, a small trickle of water grew into a raging flood. The vigorous swirling stream shot up mist into the air and provided a bit of relief from the July heat to the observers all the way up to the bridge.

Overall, it was a nice experience, definitely worth seeing if visiting the area.

Imatrankoski is a beuatiful and powerful place with lots of history. One can spen d anything between 10 minjutes to a day walking and admiring the power of water and the nice nature around.
Even withiut the showtimes you can be lucky to see the dam open and the water flowing.

This maybe is the best and liveliest museum in Imatra! Even the neoclassical museum building is a sight and protected. The designer is the famous Finnish architect Uno Ullberg, whose works can also be found in the former international city of Finland, Viipuri, which Finland lost when the Russians invaded Finland during the war.
This family museum is full of the most interesting objects, stories, photos and full of history.
The guide was the family's well-versed son, Jarmo, who really knew his stuff.
The other museum sites in Imatra were the usual ones that you see everywhere else, if you want a really intense and explosive museum complex, this is it!!

The area between the two spas in Imatra / Lappeenranta is perfect for trailrunning & MTB. Lammassaari is a cherry on top of this cake: the trail goes around the island only few meters away from the lake Saimaa. Stunning scenery.

Take a moment and stop by the Maiden of Imatra and give a thought for those who have been unlucky with love for one raeson or another. Put things in perspective now and years ago.

This church is not any remarkable style, I would say more like functional and designed by famous Finnish architect, Alvar Aalto. It stood in middle of forest area, still in town area. There has even been many trees growing so near the building that architect noticed them when designed. Unfortunately some of those old trees has fallen down in past history during hard storms.

This is really just a bunch of dilapidated old wooden shacks. It looks no different to a standard run-down farm. You can look round the buildings whether they are open or not, it takes 5 mins

Imatrankoski means Imatra Rapids and Kruununpuiston Hiidenkirnut means Glacial Potholes of Kruununpuisto Park. Both of them are very interesting and they are a very small part of the large UNESCO Geopark named Saimaa Geopark.

There is a dam in Imatra Rapids. The rocky riverbed is very impressive also as empty but if you want to see free running water in these rapids you should check timetables. Sometimes they open the dam and you may see a wonderful rapid show without any admission fee. The rapid show was one of the highlights of my summer.

There are very interesting nature trails in the natural Kruununpuisto Park. Remember to read information boards and you get interesting details. You see glacial potholes etc. Actually there are hundreds of glacial potholes in the park. Most of them are very small. The smallest are the size of a teacup but the biggest are large enough to fit a person. These glacial potholes were created about 5,700 years ago.

This is a quiet beach with not many other people, there are changing facilities and a little wooden walkway into the sea. Gives a nice view of the lake

Wonderful nature experience where anybody can go for free. This is place where you can really feel nature near you. Take time and enjoy lake Saimaa, beautiful nature and it sounds. Easy to go and also have a quick visit, if you have only hour or two to spend in nature.
