Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

What travellers are saying
- victoria BLincolnshire, UK560 contributionsThere is a right of way for visitors on a footpath which leads to the abbey from the road. Do not be put off by the five bar gate plastered with warning signs put there by the farmer. You will walk through a working farm to access the ruin and across a field with cattle in it. I totally understand why the farmer would not want mopeds and dogs disturbing his cattle, but the signs can be off-putting.
The abbey is stunning, a substantial ruin which was only abandoned in the late eighteenth century by the monks. Fenced off from the field, access is via a cattle proof entrance. Part of the ruins still have a roof and one area had a stone staircase which led to a flat part where there are brilliant views of the sea.
There is no parking nearby as it is a very narrow country road. I used a small indentation near the gate which allowed me to park, but I have a small car. There are no facilities in the abbey.Written 1 September 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Loved the impressive round tower and it's in very good condition for something almost 1000 years oldWritten 12 September 2020This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Peter D23 contributionsExcellent service from Peter and his young assistant, the bikes and ancillary equipment were all ready to go as we arrived. I had not been on a bike for many years and I wasn’t too confident cycling on the roads but the Greenway is a short five minute walk away and once on there its very safe with no traffic.
There were six adults and four young children in our group and we all had a great afternoon seeing a side of Killala you would only normally see driving by at speed in your car.
Hopefully get a chance to do it again before too long.Written 11 September 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. We were guided safely at low tide out to Bartra Island where we saw seals on the beach, amazing wild flowers and foraged for cockles and mussels samphire and other sea plants. Very interesting and informative guide on the history of the local area. My 5 year old nephew loved it as well.Written 10 August 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
