First time hike for myself although my partner is a fan!! ...I had kitted myself out with some hiking boots, walking poles and layers recommended by previous experienced walkers...as everyone notes the first 30 mins was tough going through boglnd which involved choosing your steps very carefully to avoid being sucked into the wet bog!!!
Once we had managed to get through that stage it was o to the slippery shale which provided its own set of challenges ...was it tough ...yes ...was it worth it ..100%...we had lunch 751metres above and the views were amazing ...photos really do not do it justice when you see those views for yourself!!!.

As someone interested in genealogy I have researched my mothers family in great detail. I discovered that my great grandfather was a "scutcher" and this puzzled me for ages. While visiting the Newmills Corn and Flax Mill I saw and actual representation of the work done by scutchers back in the 1800's. Its a really interesting place to visit and gives you a very visual experience how people produced corn and flax back then.

If you are "Religious" or not ?? Please do not let your particular believes discourage you from this fantastic example of splendid architecture both interior and obviously exterior !!! There is an ambience of complete peace and tranquility 💖😊 If you want to totally relax and have a good think about your problems or worries or even just to pay your respects ?? In this tranquil surrounding area of art and masterpieces , it's the place !!

Letterkenny Park or Ballymacool Park is a grand park on the outskirts of the town. It is part of the former Ballymacool Estate now taken over by the local council.
It starts off on the flat and climbs up towards Ballymacool wood. There is ample parking with public toilets.
The views are spectacular looking down on the river Swilly as it makes its way towards Lough Swilly and into the sea.
In these troubling times it is nice to be able move around and especially for those with small kids. At the moment it has escaped Covid 19 restrictions. Best of all it is free.

Initially went in to McGinleys for some food. The interior is a cosy Irish pub, which is great if that’s what you’re after. It was pretty quiet, with traditional Irish music playing and a few men sitting having drinks. I’m not much of a fan of this type of atmosphere admittedly. However, the barman was quick to explain that out the back, they had a double decker bus (quirkily named ‘The Pineapple Express’) that served as a kitchen, making fresh pizza! This was much more my vibe, with some great dance music playing in the rooftop seating area, and a good selection of delicious cocktails. The guy who served us was friendly and efficient. A good evening overall!

I visited mccaffertys with a group of friends and I have to say it lived up to the hype. Several cool bars under the one roof. And great pints as well. Thumbs up.
